I like to teach my students to design and modify some appliances or portable tools specially for agriculture and transportation for engineering projects, such as lawnmower or fertilize sprayer or 4 wheel bike and etc., from driving by internal combustion engine to dc motor in order to reduce the use of gasoline and pollutions.

What would your design or feature "wish list" be for this product?

All the Electrical values of the motor with respect to the ambient temperature should be mapped at the time of Commissioning a New DC Drive. ( For e.g., Armature Inductance, Field Resistance, Field Inductance, Interpole Inductance, Insulation Resistance of the Windings etc.,) Also, Vibration Level at a given Speed both at no load and load conditions. There should be provisions to record these values by running some routine on the drive as well as Manufacturer's test records. In future during Maintenance test routines shall be conducted to find out the deviation of these primary values to understand the severity of the situation.

Appearance of cheap VFD-s kills brushed DC drives. The future of DC is in cheap brushless motors and microdrives. Maybe DC drive will continue its life in electromobiles. But in this field they have a powerful competitor - SRM drives.

In countries like India ambient temperature and supply power quality (input ac voltage can be +/- 25%) have to be considered to avoid nuisance tripping.
