Do you know of any disastrous mistakes that occurred due to the incorrect usage of nozzles?

Answers:
Glass factory installed a nozzle that produced too fine a droplet for the volume of air and temperature to be cooled. Molten glass overheated the vessel resulting in damage to the reactor vessel and introduction of ambient air which led to rapid hardening of the glass. Entire process was covered in solid glass which had to be chipped out at a huge expense to the client.

Design the spray application first, in terms of number of spray bars, number of nozzles per spray bar, distance of spray bar from work piece, flow required, type of nozzle, pressure / flow relationship, pump size and pressure required.

Periodically check flow rate for wear. 10% wear can add up to large expenses in wasted chemical or excess water usage. Nozzles are not install and forget them.
