Description   Hydraulic power units provide pressurized flow to hydraulic motors, cylinders, and other hydraulic components. Hydraulic power units (HPUs) differ from pumps, as an HPU contains a fluid reservoir, multiple pump stages and coolers to keep fluid at a safe working temperature.  Performance specifications, physical characteristics, and features are all important parameters to consider when searching for hydraulic power units.   Video Credit: HAWE North ...

Q:
Do you know of any disastrous mistakes that occurred due to the incorrect usage of hydraulic power units?
6 answers
Answers:
The wrong connection of hoses to one of the anti dampening circuits(Valve block) of the Reach stackers put the machine to breakdown for weeks. Since then, some one has changed the hose routing prior to any notice. After the maintenance of the hydraulic circuits please ensure the valve positions are in the correct directions. Always avoid the hydraulic hoses passing near to the hot areas.

Q:
Is there any advice you want to share with users to help them avoid common errors in selection or usage of hydraulic power units?
8 answers
Answers:
The routing of the hoses and the proper end fittings such as bends and straight fittings should be properly arranged and fitted. Ensure the hoses are correctly clamped and especially the clamping should not damage the hoses by over tightening. Do not disturb the factory settings of pressure and flow control of the pumps and the charging valves without informing the authorities.
~PRASANTH P.K, SENIOR TECHINICIAN MECHANICAL MAINTANANCE, KAYAMKULAM, INDIA
During usage ensure that filler breathers are always closed. Also during usage ensure data regarding power consumption, filter element clog conditions, monitoring of any other features ( such as measurement of internal leakage of pumps etc. ), oil condition and any other diagnostic features built in the system are regularly logged and reviewed continuously.
~PRASAD M, PARTNER, BANGALORE, INDIA
During usage never try to tamper with safety relief valves. Before attempting hose changes, give adequate care for supportings and caution for dangers from high pressure oil spill and accidents.
~SIVADASAN PARAMESWARAN NAIR, Sr.Manager Construction(Port Equipment), MUNDRA, INDIA
Please check the exact application and give the inputs to build the Power units. This helps you to save lot of input energy.
~CHAKRAPANI P, Design Engineer, BENGALURU, INDIA
Incorrect sizing, which again boils down to price, they don't want to spend the money to get the correct fit.
~Lance Abe, Marketing/Sales, Honolulu, HI
I repeat, a good hydraulic unit comes from an excellent technical specification.
