Q:
Do you know of any disastrous mistakes that occurred due to the incorrect usage of flange mounted bearings?
3 answers
Answers:
Unqualified personnel installed bearing without priming grease channel, they also over greased cartridge, even by greasing elements once a day, it would have taken more than a month to prime that channel and deliver grease to element. Elements failed catastrophic failure.
~J C, Facilities Manager, Margate, FL
The wrong product quality is the biggest risk. Mounting, dismounting and maintenance is very easy and free of risk.
~Det K, Engineering Consultant, Duesseldorf, Germany

Q:
Is there any advice you want to share with users to help them avoid common errors in selection or usage of flange mounted bearings?
6 answers
Answers:
Determine rolling and cage elements are fixed or floating, choose and ensure installing desired type, very easily confusing if never installed these type of bearings before (Fill cartridge to proper packing percentage by speed factor of equipment, PRIME GREASE CHANNEL UNDER OUTER BEARING RAISE).
~J C, Facilities Manager, Margate, FL
Common mistake is to choose a bearing that is too lightly loaded, especially when dealing with very large loading conditions. Again, sound engineering design coupled with consultation with good bearing reps will help avoid mistakes.
~Carmine C, Design Engineer, Sault Ste Marie, Canada
Flanged mounted bearing units are very easy to handle and to define. It is not so easy to make errors in selection and usage only to choose the wrong quality is a risk.
~Det K, Engineering Consultant, Duesseldorf, Germany
The load does not usually dictate the life rather the conditions of operation , and the bearing seals or lubrication.
~Don Q, Engineering Consultant, Lara, Australia
Avoid conditions where heat expansion may cause excessive thrust loads.
~Ron S, River Master, Manager, Payette, ID
must have seals both sides
~FRED E, Purchaser, GRAND RAPIDS, MI

Buying AdviceTop

Q:
Do you have any advice for people relative to buying or using flange mounted bearings?
5 answers
Answers:
Ensure alignment and vibration, end thrust loads and environment contamination are considered .
~Don Q, Engineering Consultant, Lara, Australia
Choose grease carefully, determine purge vent locations and accessibility to fittings.
~J C, Facilities Manager, Margate, FL
Plain bearings withstand harsh conditions better than precision ball bearings.
~Ron S, River Master, Manager, Payette, ID
Best to first become familiar with general bearing designs and do not be afraid to consult with bearing suppliers, especially when working on prototype mechanisms.
~Carmine C, Design Engineer, Sault Ste Marie, Canada
Dependence from the app and their quality requirements choose the right brand: no name for low costs apps, high quality like DODGE or INA for high quality apps.
