What are some of the applications you have used nuts for?

Answers:
Nuts are used to join two or more parts together with Bolt. There are different types of nuts; they are called fasteners also. The most commonly used type is Hex Nut. These are used in various assemblies like tools, panel boards, automobile industries, machinery industries, lighting industries etc. Cage nuts are used in Automobile industries, and have a square head. Weld nuts are used in sheet metal industries where nut is having one small step, which is inserted in hole provided in particular sheet metal part and welded. There are rivet nuts, again used thin sheet, metal industries. These are inserted in hole provided in sheet metal and riveted with special tools, where welding will spoil the aesthetic finish of the product. One more type is Clinch nut, almost like rivet nut, but having knurled portion around shaft diameter and saw type teeth at the bottom of face wresting on sheet metal for better gripping.

Do you know of any disastrous mistakes that occurred due to the incorrect usage of nuts?

Answers:
Locking nut is not insurance for loosing joint; joint will fail under vibration and checking is needed from time to time. Disastrous was about a knife assembled in an agricultural cutting and rotating device, considered maintenance free due to locking nut use.

Loose parts on any assembly will create a health hazard, when the vibration due to wear and time working were not reviewed correctly.
