Q:
Do you know of any disastrous mistakes that occurred due to the incorrect usage of elastomers and rubber materials?
12 answers
Answers:
Elastomer type was selected incorrectly because erroneously it was assumed that a contamination problem was caused by chemical interaction. Instead it was because of insufficient wear resistance. A chemically non-sticking material was chosen with high wear rate, whereas in this case a tough material was needed.
~Niels Van der Stappen, Engineering Consultant, Nijmegen, Netherlands
