Lasers, testing procedures, there are even differences between how they are blanked out - whether they are pressed or wire cut. There are several processes linked to a knife blade that most people are not even remotely aware of when purchasing one.

Germany, U.K., U. S. A., France, Italy, Japan & other states. Polarmohr, Wholenburg, Senator, Itho & Morso blades.

Most all the companies are creating good and new designed blades, but I think that Buck is the best in hunting knives, Olfa is the best in utility breakoff blades and Home Hardware has a really good serrated blade for singular blade utility knife.
