Low-Emissivity Glass Gets Thinner Faster

RobotTemp™ FTM tempering system It's a new world record for the RobotTemp™ FTM tempering system, which has processed soft-coated Low-E glass in a record-setting time of 29 sec/mm of thickness. The system uses electrically heated full convection with FuzzyTemp™ automatic online heat profiling, making the Low-E glass processing time just 15% longer than float glass. Read more about the record-setting tempering system.

They can use their ultrasonic machining methods to perform detailed operations on ceramics. They can hold precise dimensions and tolerances in a variety of shapes and configurations. Even reflective and metalized ceramic parts can be ultrasonically machined without damage to surrounding surface areas.

Find out more about Bullen Ultrasonics, Inc.

Ceramics Producer to Reduce CO2 Emissions

Ceramics Producer to Reduce CO2 Emissions Between firing processes and power usage, ceramics producers generally contribute a significant amount of CO2 emissions. One company has developed a strategy, however, to reduce emissions by 7% from 2004 to 2010. They've diagramed the best use of firing kiln waste heat and outlined how fast drying technology cuts down emissions. To read more on CO2 reductions in ceramics production, follow this link.

SiAlON Enables Rapid Heat Transfer

SiAlON Enables Rapid Heat Transfer When an aluminum casting plant needed thermocouple protection tubes, it turned to SiAlON, an advanced ceramic material from New Zealand-based Industrial Research. The material allows rapid heat transfer and enables the thermocouple protection tubes to withstand temperature changes. Read more about the SiAlON thermocouple protection tubes.

Glass Printing Goes Digital

Glass Printing Goes Digital Digital printers are replacing traditional screens when it comes to printing on glass. Fewer maintenance concerns generally associated with the screens means a more cost-efficient printing method that can be customized for each job. With black printing already established, the glass printing industry is now focusing on full-color printing development.

Useful Tips on Working with Bent Glass

Useful Tips on Working with Bent Glass Although bent glass and flat glass are nearly the same, with one having a simple curve in its structure, the handling and storage of each differ. Find out techniques for measuring, transporting, and storing bent glass, as well as the science of heating the glass to get just the right curve. This refresher Web page also includes links to common terms used in the industry.

Measuring Thermophysical Properties

Measuring Thermophysical Properties The LFA 457 MicroFlash™ from Netzsch Instruments measures thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity for ceramics, composites, and metals. Using an IR detector, the temperature increase from heat generated from a short laser pulse is analyzed against time. The resulting thermal diffusivity is accurate, according to the company, within 3% and the thermal conductivity claims 5% accuracy.

Early Warning: Thermal Spray Conference

Early Warning: Thermal Spray Conference Let this be an early notification; the largest global thermal spray gathering takes place in Seattle, May 15-18. The International Thermal Spray Conference and Exposition features technical sessions involving more than 300 presentations and more than 50 thermal spray manufacturers. Look here to find out more about the educational, networking, and informational opportunities at the conference.
