Sucking Up Dry Solids
Two existing diaphragm pumps at the Normanton Wastewater Treatment Works in the UK couldn't handle sludge containing up to 12% dry solids. The plant replaced them with two Momo progressing cavity pumps, which use a positive displacement action, providing good suction at the inlet.

Pump Stations are Going "PreFab"
Need to replace your old pump house? If so, then just drop in a new one. That's what Missouri American Water Company in Joplin, MO did. They ordered a new pump house from Engineered Fluid, who assembled a two-piece prefabricated pump house at their factory, each piece containing three vertical turbine pumps, and delivered it to the site.

ITT Goulds developed i-Alert, which monitors temperature and vibration in a pump, and flashes red warning lights that can be seen by operators and technicians. Pass the Potatoes, Please
A food processing plant in the UK peels two tons of vegetables per hour, including potatoes, parsnips, carrots, turnips, and onions. Cutter pumps from Landia easily pass all these peelings plus any grit, stones, and dirt in the wastewater. The pumps, installed since 2001, have yet to clog.

Little Car Out-tows Big Humvee
The HyVee Ox is 4 ft shorter and 2 ft narrower than a Humvee. Not only that, it weighs 3,000 lbs less, yet it can tow 66,000 lbs compared to the Humvee's 8,500 lbs. What's the deal?
