New Wave of 60 GHz Wireless Chips

New Wave of 60 GHz Wireless Chips In less than a year, a new wave of 60 GHz wireless chips will be delivered by at least four companies, reports EETimes. These include Wilocity, Marvell, Beam Networks, and Peraso Technologies. The devices will deliver more than three Gbits per second (Gbps) of data for less than 2 W of power. All the chips are based on the IEEE 802.11ad standard promoted by the WiGig Alliance created in 2009.

Switch Operates from 500 MHz to 40 GHz

Switch Operates from 500 MHz to 40 GHz Planar Monolithics Industries (PMI) has readied a state-of-the-art solid-state SPDT absorptive switch that operates from 500 MHz to 40 GHz. It is powered and controlled via a USB 2.0 port and comes with a graphic user interface (GUI) that allows control of the switch via a PC. Measuring 2.25 in. x 1.0 in. x 0.33 in., the switch offers low insertion loss of 6.0 dB maximum and a minimum isolation of 60 dB.

Cree Releases Two New GaN MMIC Processes

Cree Releases Two New GaN MMIC Processes Cree has qualified two new GaN processes for production. While G40V4 is a 0.25 µm process with operating drain voltage up to 40 V, G50V3 is a 0.4 µm process with operating drain voltage up to 50 V. The increased operating voltage and RF power density of these new processes enable smaller dice and more compact, higher efficiency amplifiers than possible with conventional technologies. Both processes are compatible with Cree's proven GaN MMIC technology on 100 mm diameter SiC wafers.

18 GHz LNA Offers 1.5 dB NF

18 GHz LNA Offers 1.5 dB NF Leveraging its MMIC design library, Custom MMIC is offering two new gallium arsenide (GaAs) based MMIC low-noise amplifiers (LNAs) for broadband transceiver applications covering the 6 to 18 GHz frequency range. There are two versions, one in bare die form, the other is a packaged version. Each device offers low noise figure (NF) of 1.5 dB, and more than 25 dB of flat gain. The corresponding output 1 dB compression point is +10 dBm.

Gunn Oscillator Spans F Band

Gunn Oscillator Spans F Band SAGE Millimeter has developed a free-running F-band Gunn Oscillator for use in the 90 to 140 GHz range. The mechanically tuned signal source offers a tuning range of ±0.5 GHz and delivers +17 dBm output power across the tuning range. The Gunn oscillator's typical bias supply is 750 mA at +4.5 V DC.
