GAS FIRED BOX FURNACE FRONT LOADING MULTI-BURNER

The XLG furnaces are multi-purpose gas fired box furnaces. They are highly uniform in temperature and feature accurate digital controls and multiple medium or high velocity Eclipse "Thermjet" proportionally controlled burners with an independent combustion blower. The XLG furnaces can be rated as high as 2400°F (1315ºC) although typical rating is 2000ºF (1093ºC). Connected gas pressure can be as low as 1 PSI. Firing with gas can be more economical than firing with electricity. In addition, the circulation of the hot gases, especially with multiple medium velocity burners, promotes good temperature uniformity without the use of high temperature fans. The burners can be adjusted to run lean to provide a slightly reducing atmosphere (although this can not be precisely controlled.) These furnaces are excellent for ceramics processing and most metallurgical work where precise atmosphere control is not required. Systems can be designed with excess air for high uniformity at low temperatures.

FEATURES

ECLIPSE THERMJET VELOCITY BURNERS
The furnace is heated with three or more Thermjet medium or high velocity burners. These typically fire over the load with burner placement balanced to maximize circulation of the combustion products. In some large units they may be configured to fire over and under the load. These are sized for the proper BTU requirements and fuel type of your furnace. In addition the choice of high or medium velocity is an engineering choice dependent on load configuration and furnace size. The burners feature low N OX emissions, integral gas and air orifice plates (for precise gas and air balancing), high velocity for good temperature uniformity in the furnace, and excellent turn down ratio for a wide range of control. The burners are direct ignition which eliminates the need for a bypass pilot.

FM GAS TRAIN
The gas system includes two hydraulic-mechanical shut off valves, manual shut off valve, pressure regulator, and pressure gauges. Each burner has gas and air adjustment and shut off valves. A proportionating valve, controlled by the combustion air, maintains stoichiometric air/gas ratio. Systems can be designed to fire with excess air for high uniformity at low temperatures. (IRI rated gas train is optional.)

COMBUSTION AIR BLOWER SYSTEM
Combustion air is provided by a centrifugal combustion blower. A pressure gauge and air pressure switch monitor performance. Each burner has separate orifice plates and butterfly valves for precise balancing of air flow. The control of firing rate is done with a motorized butterfly valve which controls the amount of combustion air relative to a 4-20mA signal from the temperature control.

ELECTRONIC FLAME SAFETY SYSTEM, SPARK IGNITOR AND PURGE TIMER
Each burner is ignited with a spark plug automatically actuated from the Eclipse Multi-Flame Series 6000 flame safety system. UV (Ultra Violet) sensors monitor each burner. Before ignition the system goes through a timed purge with the combustion air. Safety interlocks include a combustion air pressure switch and gas high/low pressure switch. The Eclipse Multi-Flame 6000 flame monitoring system keeps the operator apprised of the status of the burners. It includes running time along with voltage signal t o each UV sensor. It will alert the operator of any problem with the burners, air flow or gas pressure and will provide "first out" information to actually pinpoint a problem. The operator only needs to press the RESET key to start the burner firing sequence.

HIGH TEMPERATURE UNIFORMITY
The furnace is +/-15F (+/-7C) above 1200F (650C) within the working dimensions. High uniformity at lower temperatures can be achieved with excess air.

EFFICIENT CERAMIC FIBER INSULATION
The sides, back, door and top surfaces are typically insulated with 2300F ceramic fiber modules, 8" thick, 10 LB density, although this is easily modified for different temperature ranges and applications. No asbestos is used. The bottom is insulated with a combination of castable and firebrick. Loads can be directly placed on this strong bottom. Optional castable piers, and ceramic, silicon carbide, serpentine or flat alloy hearth plates are available.

HEAVY DUTY CASE WITH INTEGRAL STAND
The furnace case is constructed of heavy gauge steel with structural stiffeners, lifting rings and leveling bolts. The case is primed with a high temperature (800F) silicone based paint and finished with heat resistant enamel.

COUNTERBALANCED PNEUMATIC VERTICAL DOOR
The standard furnace door has a counterbalanced vertical door with a pneumatic opener and hand or foot operated valve. Double pivoted horizontal doors are optional (standard on 6 and 8 foot high models.)

DIGITAL PID CONTROL SYSTEM WITH HIGH LIMIT
The standard control is a Honeywell UDC 2300 digital PID 3 mode tuning control. A Honeywell UDC 2300 high limit control is also included. All fuses and controls are located in a NEMA 12 panel. The thermocouple is dual Type K with an Inconel protection tube. A limit switch turns down the burners when the door is opened. Control voltage is 120 volts. The furnace is fully fused. Single point power connection.

MEETS NEC, OSHA AND FM CODES
The wiring of the furnace meets the National Electrical Code. The combustion system meets FM standards. IRI standards are available. Furnace meets all OSHA codes in effect at manufacture. Furnace drawings can be submitted to FM or IRI for approval.

FACTORY TESTING, START UP AND INSTRUCTIONS
The furnace is completely tested in our factory up to maximum temperature. A very complete instruction manual is included. A factory technician will start up furnace in your factory and make all adjustments on site.

ONE YEAR WARRANTY
The furnace is warranted for one year.

GAS FIRED BOX FURNACE FRONT LOADING SINGLE BURNER

The XLM furnaces are multi-purpose gas fired box furnaces. They are uniform in temperature and feature accurate digital controls and a single proportionally controlled burner with a 50:1 turn down ratio for accurate control. The burner maintains stoichiometric gas/air ratios. The XLM furnaces reach 2100 º F (1135ºC). Connected gas pressure can be as low as 4" W.C. Electrical requirements are 120 volts, 15 amps. Firing with gas can be more economical than firing with electricity. In addition, the circulation of the hot gases promotes good temperature uniformity without the use of high temperature fans. The burner can be adjusted to run lean to provide a slightly reducing atmosphere (although this can not be precisely controlled.) These furnaces are excellent for ceramics processing and most metallurgical work where precise atmosphere control is not required. They are particularly useful where fumes need to be vented from the furnace, such as in wax burn out work. The single ?package? type burner makes them an economical choice in a small to medium size furnace.

ECLIPSE BURNER WITH 50:1 TURNDOWN RATIO
The furnace is heated with one Eclipse Model 50 MMB Minimatic burner with integral air and gas butterfly valves. The burner is mounted in the furnace with a special 2100F burner block and holder. The blower has an 1/8 H.P. motor. This burner features a 50:1 gas turndown ratio which allows extremely good temperature control over a wide range of temperatures. All piping and controls are included. The gas system includes two solenoid shut offs and manual shut off valve. The control of firing rate is done with a motorized butterfly valve which controls the amount of natural gas and combustion air relative to a 4-20 milliamp signal from the temperature control. A pilot gas train is also included with needle valve for adjustment and solenoid shut off valve. A main gas regulator and main gas shut off valve is included. The burner is located in the back of the furnace at the top of the chamber, firing over the load. The vestibule on the top front of the furnace hangs down so that the flame does not impinge directly on the door. There is one flue at the back top. This location vs. the location of the burner makes the burner flame circulate all the way around the inside of the chamber for maximum efficiency. The burner can deliver up to 500,000 total Btu/Hr with a minimum of 10,000 Btu/hr.

FLAME SAFETY SYSTEM
The burner is ignited with a spark plug actuated from the control panel. The burner includes a UV (Ultra Violet) Sensor and electronic flame safety. Before ignition the system goes through a timed purge with the combustion air. A combustion air pressure switch and high/low pressure switch are included. Safety interlocks and purge condition are annunciated on the control panel.

HIGH TEMPERATURE UNIFORMITY
The furnace is uniform to within +/ 25F (+/-12C) above 1200F (650C) within the working dimensions.

EFFICIENT CERAMIC FIBER INSULATION
The sides, back, door and top surfaces are insulated with 2300F ceramic fiber modules, 6" thick, 10 LB density. No asbestos is used.

STRONG CASTABLE REFRACTORY BOTTOM
The bottom is insulated with 6" of lightweight, strong and highly insulating 2200F castable. Loads can be directly placed on this strong bottom. Optional castable piers, and ceramic, silicon carbide, serpentine or flat alloy hearth plates are available.

HEAVY DUTY CASE WITH INTEGRAL STAND
The furnace case is constructed of 10 gauge steel with structural stiffeners, lifting rings and leveling bolts. The case is primed with a high temperature (800F) silicone based paint and finished with heat resistant enamel.

DOUBLE PIVOTED HORIZONTAL DOOR
The standard furnace door has two pivots which allow it to open like a parallelogram. This keeps the hot face of the door away from the operator. A door vestibule made of ceramic fiber board surrounds the door perimeter. The top vestibule drops down 6" from the top to prevent the burner flame from impinging directly on the door.

Thermocouple break protection is included. Limit switches shut off burner if the door is opened. All voltage is 120 volts. The furnace is fully fused. Single point power connection.

MEETS NEC, OSHA AND FM CODES
The wiring of the furnace meets the National Electrical Code. The combustion system meets FM standards. IRI standards can be quoted as an option. Furnace meets all OSHA codes in effect at manufacture. Furnace drawings can be submitted to FM or IRI for approval.

FACTORY TESTING AND INSTRUCTIONS
The furnace is completely tested in our factory up to maximum temperature. A very complete instruction manual is included with the furnace.

ONE YEAR WARRANTY
The furnace is warranted for one year.

Guided Wave Incorporated - Hydrogen Peroxide Vapor Monitor System
Guided Wave Incorporated
Hydrogen Peroxide Vapor Monitor System

Guided Wave's H2O2 Vapor Monitor is a turnkey solution for the measurement of hydrogen peroxide and water vapor concentrations. By operating in real time, this monitor takes the guesswork out of determining the hydrogen peroxide vapor level during cycle development and throughout the actual sterilization cycle. The process engineer now has continuous, accurate data for documentation of the cycle.

Hydrogen Peroxide Vapor Monitor System

Proven Technology Guided Wave has been measuring hydrogen peroxide vapor concentrations for several years using our near infrared (NIR), fiber optic scanning spectrophotometers. Once the specific wavelengths for H2O2 and H2O were determined, a simpler, non-scanning analyzer could be developed for this application. This new design uses fixed wavelength technology but still incorporates dual beam design for stability and accuracy. Fiber optic cables take the light to the isolation chamber and back to the analyzer, the virtual equivalent of vapor sampling. This monitor measures to within 0.1 mg/l of H2O2.

Easy Operation and Control The monitor is controlled via the touch pad or through the RS232 communications port with simple to use operational commands. Password protection allows for two different levels of access: operator and administrator. All of the analytical calculations are encoded in the firmware -- there is no advanced or field programming required.

Quick Installation and Start-up The system is packaged with everything needed to start monitoring. Included are: the analyzer, the probe, a pair of fiber optic cables to connect the probe to the analyzer, a comprehensive operations manual, power cable and even a communications cable to connect to your PC. There are no extras to buy; you just unpack, plug it in, warm it up, install the probe, and start to monitor. There is virtually no start-up learning curve.

Factory Calibrated Normally, spectrophotometers are calibrated by comparing the spectral results against an accepted wet chemical method. This analyzer was calibrated by comparing concentration readings versus theoretical calculations and two wet chemical methods commonly used to measure H2O2 vapor concentrations (Pharmaceutical Engineering, July/August 1998, Vol. 18 No. 4). Once the chemical and physical constants were determined and encoded into the firmware, the only way the analyzer could fall out of 'calibration' is if the photometric properties of the instrument change.

Failsafe Operation Every time a reference is taken prior to the sterilization cycle, the monitor checks itself to ensure that these photometric properties have not varied from factory specifications. Each instrument contains a validation filter, made of a polymeric material chosen because of its insensitivity to moisture and temperature conditions. The filter also has unique spectral characteristics at the wavelengths used to measure hydrogen peroxide and water. The spectrum of H2O2 and H2O do not change. Every time the monitor is instructed to take a reference, the validation filter is temporarily moved into the light path and the optical characteristics of the analyzer are checked. If the monitor fails any of the diagnostic checks, or does not meet factory specifications, it will give an error message and will not allow itself to continue. This same filter is available as a manual probe insert, testing the external (fibers and probe) components of the system, providing data via the RS232 port or touchscreen.
