The Motion 85915/85916 Ball Drive Actuator provides a miniature package for operating loads up to 40lbs. The basic construction incorporates the Motion Ball Drive 85906 which is a high efficiency .222 diameter Epicyclic Ball Screw with integral freewheeling at stroke ends to eliminate limit switches. Both 12 VDC and 24 VDC are available. The 85915 uses a translating tube for mounting, while the 85916 is an open screw type unit where attachment is made directly to the ball nut.

For torque requirement valves up to 28500 inch.lbs (3220 Nm.) The AFS (Air Fail Safe) actuator is designed to provide a high fail stroke torque in a double rack and pinion actuator that cannot be achieved using springs. All the safety and performance features of double rack and pinion actuators are maintained as is the Hytork "XL" reliability.

Using the time proven air accumulator system, and modern design techniques, Hytork produces air chamber modules with all the pneumatic circuitry Safety protected within.

The HYTORK AFS maintains the highest seen air supply pressure within the chamber modules, to be released upon control demand. This design also prevents closure "creeping" when air supply pressures drop, which occurs with all spring return designs. Torque output is constant in the powered stroke with only a small drop off on the fail stoke. The available torques are proportional to the air supply pressure. Spring changes for various air supply pressures need not be made.

The AFS operates as a double acting actuator in both directions until there is a loss of supply pressure. When this loss occurs, the compressed air stored in the chambers powers the actuator to close the valve. This makes the AFS Series suitable for use in ON/OFF and MODULATING CONTROL situations while still providing the fail safe requirement. The AFS is supplied already furnished with an installed, direct mount solenoid valve. The coil type is selected to suit your site requirements. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Corrosion Resistant: Hayward® PMD and PMS actuators feature heavy-duty, corrosion resistant construction. These actuators are designed to stand up to most corrosive environments and other harsh conditions without the need for epoxy coatings.

Two Modes of Operation: Series PMD actuators are air-to-air (double acting), while the PMS Series are air-to-spring (fail safe) actuators. Air-to-air actuators require air pressure for both actuation cycles, open and close. Air-to-spring actuators have a mechanical spring return unit enclosed in the actuator housing that is used to operate one of the actuation cycles, either open or close. Both types work with all True Union and Three-way Ball Valves up to 2" in size.

Rugged Design: The actuators feature a proven, heavy-duty rack and pinion design that is extremely reliable. The actuators require no maintenance. The internal lubrication lasts indefinitely, even in applications where the actuator is cycled frequently.

Modular Mounting Options: These actuators feature a Namur style modular mounting system for options. Options mount separately to the actuator, they are not built in or enclosed in the housing. This makes it very easy to add options to the actuator after it has been installed into the system should the need ever arise due to changes in application parameters. You never have to pay for an options package with features you may not use.

Manual Override Standard: Both types of actuators feature a standard manual override and can be operated manually in the event of air or electrical failure. This means that the valve can be manually opened or closed without having to remove the actuator from the valve for access to the valve stem.
