Blended Cements

Holcim Performance Cements (HPC™) are a family of blended cements manufactured by Holcim (US) Inc. to help meet the increasing performance demands, higher standards and specifications and environmental constraints being placed on today's construction industry. HPC™ is manufactured by intergrinding or interblending a pozzolan (typically fly ash) with Portland Cement clinker of Portland Cement.

HPC™ is designed to meet the strictest performance criteria.

The primary ingredients in HPC™ are Portland Cement clinker, fly ash and gypsum ground to a fine powder. Pozzolans typically include either a Class C or Class F fly ash at varying percentages by weight, depending on the specific performance criteria being addressed.

Fly ash is primarily silicate glass containing silica, alumina, lime and iron. Certain fly ashes exhibit both pozzolanic and cementitious properties.

A by-product of cement hydration is calcium hydroxide, which is water soluble. A big advantage to using fly ash in a blended cement is that a pozzolan will react with the calcium hydroxide to form other cementitious compounds, creating a more dense, durable concrete.

HPC™ is manufactured to meet the requirements of ASTM C 595, Standard Specifications for Blended Hydraulic Cements, and ASTM C 1157, Standard Performance Specifications for Blended Hydraulic Cements. HPC may be designed as moderate or high sulfate resistant, moderate or low heat of hydration or option R, low reactivity with alkali-reactive aggregates.

HPC™ is manufactured under controlled conditions to ensure consistent quality and uniformity. Holcim's tightly-controlled environment assures optimal proportions, chemistry and particle size distribution for the best possible performance.

Potting Cements for Lighting

Sauereisen cements are widely specified as potting materials for specialty lamps. Common applications include MR16 halogens, High Intensity Discharge (HID) lighting, and various strobes.

The phosphate-bonded and silicate-based groupings are particularly insulating to electrical current, and they also resist temperatures through 2600 F. These products bond to ceramic, metal and glass, forming a dense, porcelain-like finish.

Zircar Zirconia, Inc. - Zirconia Cement
Zircar Zirconia, Inc.
Zirconia Cement

Zircar Zirconia Cement Type ZR-CEM is an off white single part yttria-stabilized zirconia adhesive with a useful temperature limit of 2200°C. ZR-CEM is formulated specifically for bonding Zircar Zirconia Felts, Boards and Cylinders to themselves or to back-up thermal insulations such as porous firebrick, alumina fiber and alumino-silicate fiber boards.

Zirconia Cement

ZR-CEM is composed of yttria-stabilized zirconia milled fibers and sub-micron particles. Potassium silicate and zirconium acetate binders are added to enhance bonding characteristics. ZR-CEM will not bond to non-porous surfaces such as glass or steel. ZR-CEM is mildly acidic (pH 5.4) and forms a strong bond upon removal of the water solvent.

For most furnace applications, the articles bonded together are ready for placing in service once the cement has dried. Curing at 426°C (800°F) or more may be desirable to eliminate the acetate prior to use. The cured bond joint is stronger than the tensile strength of 30 pound per cubic foot density Zircar Zirconia insulation material Types ZYFB-3, ZYZ-3 and ZYC. Pull out or de-lamination due to excessive mechanical or thermal stresses will usually first occur in the insulation material itself.
