Chemir Analytical Services
Materials Identification
Materials identification can be used to solve contaminant problems, determine the components of an unknown material and identify differences in similar materials.
An unknown material is often the underlying cause of many difficult problems. Chemir Analytical Services begins the identification analysis by obtaining the material's fingerprint using infrared spectroscopy. The fingerprint of the unknown material is searched through in-house computer-based spectral libraries followed by interpretation and comparison with authentic spectra. Instrumental and wet chemical methods are used as needed to identify simple or complex mixtures.
Materials identification can be used to solve contaminant problems, determine the components of an unknown material and identify differences in similar materials.
Material identification is also used to support legal cases involving product liability and patent issues.
Chemir Analytical Services has provided material identification services for a variety of industries and products. These industries include:
- Food and Beverage
- Plastics and Polymers

M&P Lab (The)
Identification of Contaminants
Identifying contaminants in virtually any materials, metallic or non-metallic, can be done using the electron microprobe, infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), or inductively coupled plasma (ICP-OES).
When a process produces acceptable output one day, and scrap the next, the cause must be quickly identified and corrected. The M&P Lab can evaluate the materials to help identify the contamination and pinpoint the cause of the problem. Foreign material found in processes is a classic example. For instance, we have matched the alloy of metal flakes found in Styrofoam cups to the alloy of air ducts, thereby giving the client the answer so critical to correcting their process problem. We matched the alloy of foreign material that damaged a power plant to a tool left behind by a service person. Quick Links:
A plastic pellet manufacturer had metal bits in his plastic and we identified the types of steel for him on pieces as small as 20 thousandths of an inch. These are just a sampling of the kinds of problems we have solved by identifying contaminants with our extensive array of equipment, skills and techniques. Analysis and Testing Capabilities from The M&P Lab include:
- Failure Analysis
- Scanning Electron Microscopy
- Electron Microprobe Analysis
- Metallography
- Metallurgical Evaluation
- Inorganic Chemical Analysis
- Organic Chemical Analysis
- Thermal Analysis
- Fuels & Lubricants Testing and Analysis
- Image Analysis
- Digital Photography
- Mechanical Testing
- Creep & Rupture Testing
- Electrical Testing

The M&P Lab is a full-service materials testing laboratory, offering our clients a full range of analytical and consulting services such as acceptance testing, quality control, service evaluation, failure analysis and product development. We analyze materials such as metals, composites, organics and polymers to determine composition, structure and properties. DISCOVERY…We start by looking – first with the naked eye, then closer, in ways our eyes can't see, searching for clues. ANALYSIS…The analysis is often a comparison to a known standard or specification. INSIGHT…Rooted in years of experience, individual intelligence and creativity, insight is what enables us to make the leap from a collection of data to a comprehensive solution. SOLUTIONS…The intimate knowledge of our clients' products and processes allows us to respond faster to their needs, more directly address their problems and provide sound solutions which make a significant impact on the clients' bottom line.

Cellotape, Inc.
Custom Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
Cellotape, Inc. manufactures custom Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) products to match your specifications
More >>
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology permits wireless, two-way communication between a smart label or tag and a reader. The core of the technology is the "transponder", usually made of polyester film with a printed or etched antenna embedded with a silicon chip. Apply a printed or printable face-stock to the top and you have an RFID tag. Add an adhesive to the bottom and you have an RFID label. These "smart" tags and labels can then addressed by an RFID reader, also called an "interrogator".
Many factors can influence the selection of the face-stock, transponder, adhesive, and additional features used in the construction of an label or tag. Cellotape specializes in custom RFID constructions to suit your special needs.
