Comprehensive protection for Seekers and Solvers

As part of its mission to transform the scale and productivity of research and development, InnoCentive is dedicated to helping innovators and organizations worldwide to collaborate successfully and securely. The InnoCentive approach to online security and intellectual property rights (IPR) protection has met the stringent requirements of leading companies, not-for-profit organizations, and government agencies around the world. InnoCentive facilitates the entire process of problem formulation, information access, submission and award—incorporating proven IPR safeguards for both Seekers and Solvers.

1. Challenge Formulation: Protecting anonymity and confidentiality

The InnoCentive process begins with the formulation of each InnoCentive Challenge™. Seekers and the InnoCentive Client Services Group collaborate to formulate Challenges that provide appropriate information while preserving Seeker anonymity. Internal Seeker review for legal, scientific, and commercial compliance is followed by a final comprehensive review before the Challenge is posted online.

2. Information Access: Details gated by binding agreements and online security

InnoCentive controls access to valuable information belonging to Seekers and Solvers by using binding agreements and private Project Rooms. While brief Challenge abstracts can be viewed by the global Solver community, only registered InnoCentive Solvers can view Challenge summaries containing more specific, non-confidential information. Solvers must sign a binding confidentiality agreement before accessing the full project details. Private online Project Rooms for each Solver and each Challenge allow individual Solvers and InnoCentive to communicate confidentially and securely.

3. Submission and Award: Facilitated evaluation, verification, and IPR transfer

Solvers submit Challenge solutions directly to InnoCentive via secure Project Rooms only. InnoCentive facilitates an auditable evaluation process, including initial vetting by the InnoCentive Client Services Group, validation by the Seeker organization, and final selection of winning submissions. When appropriate, InnoCentive verifies Solver authority for transferring rights, gathers any necessary employer waivers, and collects hard-copy contract signatures. Upon final award, InnoCentive administers payment. Awardees transfer IPR to Seeker companies, while all other Solvers retain their rights.

2nd Generation FibreACCESS - Reduced Cost & Power

Data Device Corporation (DDC) proudly announces its second (2nd) generation of FibreACCESS™ Fibre Channel Network Adapters. The new FibreACCESS PMC modules offer all the functionality of the existing FibreACCESS Network Access Controllers (NACs) at lower cost and reduced power consumption. Additionally, the Rugged Low Profile transceiver option offers a footprint approximately 50% that of a standard Small Form Factor optical transceiver, enabling military/aerospace customers to increase fiber optic cable bend radius while minimizing overall size and weight.

Continuing DDC's outstanding history of military support, service and manufacturing capability, the FibreACCESS cards offer military-optimized features such as implicit login, Class 2 service, and Extended Link Services. The FibreACCESS supports lightweight, avionics-specific protocols such as ASM and RAW modes, standard Upper Layer Protocols (ULPs) such as TCP/IP and SCSI, and custom ULPs. DDC-developed Intellectual Property (IP) enables DDC to provide customizability and long life cycle support for military applications, while the FPGA-based design facilitates maintenance and functionality changes through firmware upgrades.

"The FibreACCESS NAC has proven itself in multiple flyable and test applications, both alone and interoperating with avionics and commercial, cards and switches. We're taking this proven design and are migrating it to a new, lower -cost platform with increased capability for customization," said Amir Massumi, Director of Marketing at DDC.

With an operating temperature range that extends from -40 to +85° C, the FibreACCESS is a true conduction cooled flyable design that has demonstrated proven interoperability with both avionics and commercial Fibre Channel cards and switches.

Neodymium Magnet Material

Neodymium, or Neo, is made up of Neodymium Iron and Boron and is moderate in price. With poor corrosion resistance this alloy is usually plated or coated (Examples: Nickel Plated, Epoxy Coated, Parylene Coated). Neodymium is offered in a range of operating temperatures depending on your application (80°C to 200°C). Premium Neodymium Alloys capable of operating above 120°C can become quite expensive. This permanent magnet material has many intellectual property rights associated with it and there are a limited number of licensed manufacturers in the world. Many infringing manufacturers from the Pacific-rim dump sub par material into the Western markets. This magnet material is extremely powerful and it has allowed for the miniaturization of many products from HDD (Hard Disc Drives) and motors to novelties and audio devices. Neodymium permanent magnets usually offer the best value when comparing price and performance.

Neodymium magnets offer the best value when comparing performance, size and cost. They are moderate in price, very strong magnetically, and typically allow for dimensional reductions. They have poor resistance to corrosion and should have a coating or plating applied. Consideration should be given to the grade of alloy when exposing Neodymium magnets to temperatures above ambient room. Neodymium Iron Boron has good resistance to external demagnetization fields because of its high Intrinsic Coercive Force (Hci) . This resistance makes Neodymium magnets an excellent choice for electromechanical applications.

Intellectual property rights exist for commercially viable Neodymium Iron Boron magnet alloys. Many infringing manufacture's from the Pacific Rim can offer cheap pricing because they pay no royalties to the patent holders, utilize substandard raw materials, and have poor manufacturing methods. Utilization of infringing Neodymium magnets may lead to legal issues, delays, and product failures. Dura Magnetics, Inc. only provides licensed alloys which are traceable to the patent holders. This assertion of compliant Neodymium magnet alloy is supported by on-site inspections and contractual obligations initiated with alloy producers.
