Gas and Liquid Flow Switch: Sitron CF Series

Sitron's versatile and intelligent line of Thermal Dispersion Flow Switch are compact switches and transmitters, with no moving parts, that can monitor and control the flow of liquid and gas in pipes and ducts. They can also be used for single point level detection for liquids. Sitron's series of flow switches and transmitters are available in different models that provide for different power supply, output and connection requirements.

All models are manufactured using 316 S.S. and can be coated when necessary for aggressive mediums. All of the CF12 and CF420 models can operate in temperatures up to 248ºF (120ºC) and have a maximum working pressure of 4350 PSI (300 bar). A display chain of 8 LED's is available for all models to indicate flow rate (CF420) and to help the set point adjustment (CF12 series). Sitron also offers the option of sanitary connections such as Tri-Clamp as well as the standard threaded and flanged connections. In addition, the orientation of the enclosure can be rotated so that the LED display can be best viewed, after the process connection has been tightened.

Sitron's line of flow switch monitors are highly reliable industrial instruments that provide the durability and speed required for today's general as well as harsh process environments for flow and level. TECHNOLOGY:

Sitron's line of thermal flow switch is based on the principle of thermal dispersion. A typical configuration uses two platinum Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTD's) set within the tip of the sensor. One RTD is heated a few degrees above the temperature of the medium and the other RTD is used as a reference, sensing the actual process temperature. The second RTD also monitors the temperature of the medium, as any changes in temperature must be compensated for in the first RTD.

As the process medium flows over the tip of the sensor it disperses some of the heat from the first RTD. The temperature change between the two RTDs signals the probe's electronics and the switch changes state once the set point has been reached. For the CF420, the microprocessor-based electronics constantly updates and reviews the signals received, in return putting out a 4-20mA analog output signal, which is proportional to the flow rate. PSR/PS Paddle Type Flow Switch

KOBOLD paddle type flow switches can be used wherever a simple economic yet reliable monitoring instrument is required for flow switching applications. The device operates as follows: The flowing medium presses against the paddle of the KOBOLD flow switch. The paddle is fitted to one end of a balance arm which is in direct contact with a pre-stressed leaf spring. At the other end of the balance arm is a permanent magnet. This magnet actuates a reed contact located within a moveable housing outside the media. The reed contact switches on or off depending on the position of the permanent magnet and the switch housing. The status of the switch may then be used to electrically control the fluid flow. The movable reed switch on the KOBOLD PSR/PS allows the contacts to be set either normally open (N/O) or normally closed (N/C).

FLT Pump Protection Flow Switch

Reduces Pump Maintenance and Extends Life

Chemical Processing, Food/Beverage, Mining/Milling,

Oil/Gas, Pulp/Paper, Water & Wastewater and Much More

The advanced FlexSwitch® FLT Pump Protection Flow Switch from Fluid Components International (FCI) improves process control by adding an extra margin-of-safety, which keeps pumps running longer and more reliably with less frequent maintenance over an expanded lifetime to reduce total operational costs. The FLT Flow Switch will be welcomed by process and plant engineers tired of repairing or replacing pumps because of unpredictable liquid or slurry flows in their pipelines that cause pump over-heating or failure.

The Flow/Level/Temperature (FLT) Pump Protection Flow Switch reliably monitors the flow and temperature of liquids, gases, slurries, syrups, lubricants, coolants and more. It is ideal for wet/dry detection in protecting pumps, where sudden, unexpected reductions in media flow rates may leave pumps vulnerable to over-heating conditions that can result in bearing or seal damage that require major repairs or shorten their useful life.

The FLT Flow Switch, with its no moving parts design, offers a highly robust scheme for pump protection with its dual alarm capability. With Alarm 1, the switch will detect a low-flow situation anywhere between 0.01 and 3 feet per second (FPS) (.003 to.9 meters per second MPS). This low flow alarm can be regarded as a pre-warning signal for the control system or operator. The system or operator can then decide to keep the pump running or to shut it down.

If an Alarm 2 occurs because the feed line to the pump is running dry, this condition would be an emergency signal to shut down the pump immediately because the bearings now see gas instead of a liquid as a heat transfer media. In such

situations, the temperature of the bearings may rise very fast. Using a flow switch prevents permanent damage to the pump's bearings that will require an overhaul of the pump before more damage occurs.

The FLT flow switch is a dual-function instrument that indicates both flow and temperature, and/or level sensing in a single device. It can be specified in either insertion or in-line styles for pipe or tube installation. With the FLT, a single switch monitors both key variables necessary to protect pumps, measuring liquid flow and temperature simultaneously with excellent accuracy and reliability. Dual 6A relay outputs are standard and are assignable to flow, level or temperature.

The FLT features a wide set-point range, which varies according to service media (liquid, gas or foam), beginning from 0.01 to 3 SFPS (0.003 to 0.9 SMPS) in water-based liquids. It is hydrostatically proof pressure tested to 3500 psig [240 bar (g)] at 70°F (21°C). De-rated with temperature, the maximum operation service recommended is 2350 psig [162 bar (g)] at 500°F (260°C). Higher ratings are available with special construction and test certification. Agency approvals include: FM, ATEX, CSA, CRN and CE.

Highly dependable, FCI's versatile Flow/Level/Temperature (FLT) Switches provide precise, rapid flow or level control in liquids or slurries, as well as temperature measurement. They are ideal for applications in many demanding process industries, including chemical processing, food/beverage, mining/milling, oil/gas, pulp/paper, pharmaceutical, water/waste treatment and more.

Non-Intrusive Sanitary Flow Switch For

Liquid/Gas/Air Control In High Purity Processes

Food/Beverage, Pharmaceutical, Specialty Chemicals, Semiconductor

Controlling liquids, specialty gases or air in high purity and sanitary processes is now easier than ever with the advanced NuTec® FS2000L Inline Flow Switch from Fluid Components International, which features a revolutionary non-intrusive design that eliminates contact between the process media and the flow sensor.

The NuTec FS2000L is a highly versatile general-purpose flow switch designed for the control of liquids, specialty gases or air in a wide range of industries. It is available with an electropolish finish of 20 Ra or 10 Ra for service in line sizes from 0.5 to 2.0 inches (13 to 51 mm) in high purity and sanitary environments.

Highly accurate and responsive, the FS2000L is designed with a no-moving parts thermal mass flow sensor that requires virtually no maintenance and offers a long-life for exceptionally low life-cycle costs. It is accurate to +3 percent of alarm set point +0.25 percent of set point range over any 100°F (38°C) temperature span. Response time is adjustable from 0.5 to 2.5 seconds.

Designed to operate over a wide flow range, the FS2000L supports water-based applications from 0.03 to 85.5 GPM (0.11 to 324 LPM), and it supports gas/air flow applications from 0.02 to 342 SCFM (0.0006 to 9.70 NCMM), depending on the line size. It also operates dependably in media with temperatures from -40 to 250°F (-40 to 121°C) and under pressures to 100 psi [7 bar (g)].

The FS2000L Flow Switch precisely and rapidly controls liquids, high purity process gases and air. It reliably monitors the flow of water-based syrups, lubricants, coolants, highly viscous or adhesive materials, as well as specialty gases and air. It is ideal for applications involving chemical injection, pill coating, fermenting, bottling, pump protection, leak detection and more.

Controlling the flow of high purity/sanitary liquids and gases is often challenging. Flow switch sensors placed directly into the process media often either reduce flow or clog over time (especially differential pressure tube sensors), which can degrade their responsiveness. Contact between the flow sensor and the media also requires frequent cleaning, repair or replacement of mechanical sensors, such as paddles and floats.

With its advanced non-intrusive design, the FS2000L solves these problems with a flat-face no-moving parts sensor configuration. This unique thermal mass flow sensor is installed flush to the inside of the pipe inner diameter (ID). It is fully temperature compensated for high repeatability of +1 percent of alarm set point, with little to no drift over time independent of changes in media or air temperature.

Input power for the control circuit is available in either 24 Vdc or 115/230 Vac. The alarm signal output is a 6 amp, 28 Vdc/240 Vdc resistive relay. Secondary alarm indicator is an open collector circuit (250 mA maximum). The FS2000L's electronics enclosure is all metal, NEMA Type 4X (IP66) rated and approved for Groups B, C, D, E, F, G and EEx d IIC. Process pipe connection options include 1-inch NPT or 1-inch compression fittings.

Fluid Components International is a global company committed to meeting the needs of its customers through innovative solutions to the most challenging requirements for sensing, measuring and controlling flow and level of air, gases and liquids.
