Microroller® Motorized Rollers

The Microroller™ is an internally powered motor-driven conveyor roller with a 24 VDC brushless motor and permanently lubricated planetary gear reduction drive. These 24 VDC powered motorized rollers are for plant managers and production engineers who strive to lower the total cost of ownership of their conveyor systems. Motor-driven rollers optimize system throughput, decrease installation and maintenance costs, consume less overall power, and increase environmental safety. Unlike other conveyor technologies, such as lineshaft or belt-driven conveyors, motor-driven rollers controlled by ZoneLink™ controllers do not require pneumatics, external PC- or PLC control or extensive I/O networks for zero pressure accumulation. ZoneLink™ controllers offer lower cost of ownership because of fewer components, less wiring, realtime diagnostics and quieter, on demand operation.

Motorized Stages

Motorized stages are ideal for remote or automated positioning of optical components or subassemblies. In addition to all the precision features of their manual counterparts, the motorized actuator provides speed and resolution that cannot be achieved by manual adjustment. Three types of linear stages are available: a 65X65-mm aluminum ball bearing stage designed for general use, a 65X65-mm stainless steel crossed-roller-bearing stage designed for precision applications, and a 120X120-mm aluminum crossed-roller-bearing stage designed for larger loads and extended travel. Melles Griot motorized rotation stages provide precise, automated rotation for optical components and subassemblies. These stages combine the advantages of quick manual positioning with high-resolution stepper-motor adjustment. Use the manual positioning feature for proper orientation and, with the twist of a thumbscrew, engage the stepper motor for exact automated alignment. Vertical stages provide motorized translation in a direction perpendicular to their mounting surfaces. The smooth vertical travel is guided by three rows of precision crossed-roller bearings and is driven by a cam mechanism which converts the horizontal motion of the motorized actuator to a vertical stage motion. The nonrotating spindle on the actuator improves performance by reducing contact friction. Available in inch or metric versions, these stages can be easily combined with the linear translation stages to create x-y-z configurations.

Utilizing the AlphaStep system enables high response and the ability to eliminate missteps. The performance of the AlphaStep allows the EZS II to provide quick positioning operation.

Available Stroke Lengths (desired stroke length can be selected in 50 mm increments over the following ranges):

  • EZS3, EZS4 = 50 ~ 700 mm
  • EZS6 = 50 ~ 850 mm

The ball screw employs the THK QZ™ lubrication system, while the THK LM Guide™ uses the Ball Retainer™ to retain the coupled rolling elements. The ball screw and THK LM Guide™ use AFF grease with reduced dust-raising property, which is designed for use in clean rooms. A simple roller mechanism is adopted to prevent the stainless sheet from wearing quickly. The roller structure suppresses dust generation caused by relative sliding of the stainless sheet and the table.

ZoneLink® .S Driver Module

The ZoneLink™ .S Driver Module is designed to connect to and operate a Sparks Microroller™ motorized roller -- providing a run signal, a speed adjustment potentiometer and a rotation direction command to the motor.

ZoneLink® .S Driver Module

The ZoneLink™ .S Driver Module is designed to connect to and operate a Sparks Microroller™ motorized roller -- providing a run signal, a speed adjustment potentiometer and a rotation direction command to the motor.

The ".S" technology enables serial communication between the driver module and a ZoneLink™ Controller.

Through this innovative link, the ZoneLink™ Controller can configure a .S Driver Module for an application, control it, and obtain information about the status of the driver module as well as the connected motor.

Up to four ZoneLink™ .S Driver Modules can be connected to a ZoneLink™ 4-Zone Controller using standard category 5 patch cables and RJ-45 connectors. The zone sensor hardwires directly to the .S Driver Module, keeping all wiring local to a zone and reducing wiring.

The ZoneLink™ .S Driver Module uses microcontroller-based commutation of the brushless motor, which provides the following key benefits:

  • Predictive diagnostics embedded in the .S Driver Module monitor the motor condition and provide a flag to the control system when a powered roller should be replaced -- in advance of the roller failing
  • Closed-loop speed control holds the roller speed at a constant value, improving the ability to tune a conveyor system
