Leaded NTC thermistors are some of the most versatile temperature sensors available to the design engineer. These products are offered in many different lead configurations, uninsulated or insulated, and with coating/encapsulation sizes ranging from 0.125 in OD down to 0.020 in OD.

T100 Series NTC Thermistors, Uninsulated Leads

NTC thermistors with uninsulated leads are one of the industry's most typical and most versatile configurations. They are suitable for mounting on PC boards or potting inside temperature probe housings. Their small size, low cost, ruggedness, and sensitivity to changes in temperature make them the ideal choice for applications in the range of -50 °C to 150 °C.

T150 Series NTC Thermistors, Uninsulated Lead, High Temperature

Because of its unique metalization technology [patent/patents pending] and superior thermistor processing technology, the Cornerstone Sensors, Inc. T150 series NTC thermistor is a lower cost alternative to interchangeable, glass encapsulated thermistors when the NTC thermistor must be exposed continuously to temperatures up to 150 °C.

Typically, commercially available interchangeable, precision epoxy and phenolic coated NTC thermistors may be exposed only short term to temperatures above 105 °C and not above 150 °C. Glass encapsulated precision NTC thermistors are available but costly. Cornerstone Sensors, Inc. T150 series NTC thermistor shows less than 0.35 % [0.08 °C] drift after 6,000 hours of continuous exposure to 150 °C.

T200 Series NTC Thermistors, Insulated Leads

The T200 Series NTC thermistors with insulated leads are ready for use as is or for encapsulation in either plastic or metal housings for added protection. Insulated leads eliminate the costly task of individually insulating the leads with insulation tubing prior to encapsulation in a probe housing. The T200 Series is not only available in the standard two leaded, single thermistor construction; it is also available in the 6k/30k three leaded, dual thermistor composite. The T200 Series thermistor construction is noted for its ruggedness, reliability, and stability. Custom products are available.

T300 Series NTC Thermistors, Insulated Leads

The T300 Series encapsulated NTC thermistors are ready for use in applications where long lead lengths, small size, and consistency of tip size is important. The T300 Series is an alternative to dipped epoxy coatings where coating diameter and coating length will have greater variations. A similar thermistor with an epoxy dip coating would be approximately 0.015 in to 0.020 in greater in diameter.

NTC Thermistors

Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) thermistors are thermally sensitive semiconductor resistors, which exhibit a decrease in resistance as absolute temperature increases. Change in the resistance of NTC thermistor can be brought about either by a change in the ambient temperature or internally by self-heating resulting from current flowing through the device. Most of the practical applications of NTC thermistors are based on these material characteristics.

NTC DISC & CHIP Style Devices

RTI manufactures DISC & CHIP style thermistors in resistance values ranging from 1.0 ohm to 500,000 ohms. These devices are suitable for a range of resistance values and temperature coefficients from relatively low resistance and temperature coefficients to very high values. Precision resistance tolerances are available to 1%. Standard resistance tolerances are from 5% to 20%. All tolerances are specified at 25°C or may be specified at any temperature within the operating temperature range of the thermistor.

Power NTC Thermistor
The MF72 series Power NTC Thermistors provide inrush current suppression for sensitive electronics. Connecting a MF72 in series with the power source will limit the current surges typically created at turn on. Once the circuit is energized the resistance of the MF72 will decrease rapidly to a very low value, power consumption can be ignored and there will be no effect on normal operating current. Using the MF72 Power NTC Thermistor is a most cost-effective way to curb surge current and protect sensitive electronics from damage.
