Stork Veco manufactures custom designed encoder discs, masks and strips for motion control applications ranging from the commonplace to the specialized. These unbreakable metal components are ideal for meeting rugged motion control requirements and the electroforming manufacturing process assures excellent product quality. Electroformed encoder discs/strips/masks are characterized by very uniform aperture sizes with sharp straight edges.

Our technical flexibility allows us to produce a wide range of designs. The maximum disc diameter is 6" (150 mm) and the maximum strip length is 39" (1 meter). The +/- 0.0004" (0.010 mm) tolerance assures excellent window to window repeatability and tight center hole concentricity which eliminates the extra assembly work required with other types of materials. With a minimum pitch of 0.0026" (0.065 mm), pulse counts up to 1024 PPR can be achieved in a disc size of approximately one inch and much higher for larger sized discs.

Stork Veco has the ability to produce parts in different batch sizes which allows for competitive pricing for both small and large production runs. Most of the film tooling work is done in house to keep start up costs low. All we need is a mechanical drawing of the part you require and an estimate of the annual volume and we can provide a price quotation.

The heavy duty rail proven NorthStar HSD44 optical encoder is a anodized aluminum encoder that can survive high levels of shock and vibration, wide temperature extremes and operating environment contaminants.

The 1024 pulses per revolution are provided by a rugged stainless steel disc which is read from a specially designed optical sensor. An enormous .025" sensor gap reduces sensitivity to shock vibration and motor bearing wear. The counter spiral shaft-coupler provides a flexible mount that eliminates resonance throughout the operating range and will not fatigue under vibration. Electronics are condensed down to a single ASIC, reducing the likelihood of electronic component failure.

The NorthStar HSD44 is designed for end-of-motor application. Adapter plates are available for common motor styles and custom adapter plates can be created to fit any application.
