BEI Kimco Magnetics Introduces High Precision

Integrated Motor Encoder Assembly Designed for Extremely Fine Positioning

VISTA, Calif, − June 4, 2008 − BEI Kimco Magnetics, a company of Custom Sensors & Technologies (CST), Inc., has expanded its motion control capabilities with the introduction of a high precision Integrated Motor Encoder Assembly. Featuring a large diameter clear aperture with integral high resolution encoder, it is ideally suited for high performance specialty machine applications where high acceleration point-to-point motion is required.

The new assembly incorporates ABEC7 class precision ball bearings, providing exceptional reliability and long service life. Other performance attributes include a tightly toleranced hollow shaft configuration that offers superior repeatability and wobble characteristics essential for optical applications requiring a large diameter clear aperture. The high resolution optical encoder supports resolutions of up to 0.02 arc-sec. and the hall based commutation scheme allows for seamless connectivity with a variety of standard motion controllers.

The new offering was designed in response to market demand for a compact, high accuracy integrated motor encoder solution that could deliver superior positioning accuracy and repeatability under the most demanding continuous-duty production environments.

"Our customers have typically turned to us for products used in high velocity-based applications" says Walter Smith, BEI Kimco Magnetics Senior Applications Engineer. "With the introduction of the new motor/encoder assembly, we can now fulfill requirements for more specialized positioning based applications."

BEI Kimco Magnetics new Integrated Motor Encoder Assembly is available now with delivery in six to eight weeks.

I-FORCE Ironless Motor Positioners from Parker Trilogy...

Ironless linear motors are also known as air-core linear motors. Ironless motors are characterized by having no attractive force towards the magnets. A coil assembly typically moves between two opposite facing rows of magnets.

Parker Trilogy invented and patented (RE34674) the first Ironless motor to use thermally conductive epoxy together with the windings as a primary structural elements. This is now the standard construction method adopted and used by all of our competitors.

We developed a vacuum encapsulation process that allows our motors to be used in high vacuums found in semiconductor applications. Our vacuum molding process removes entrained and entrapped air that could possibly foul the process vacuum.

Ironless motors can have overlapping windings, creating the I-Beam shape, or non-overlapping windings creating a T-shape when the coil bar is included. Motors with overlapped, I-Beam, windings contain about 15% more copper and efficiency than the nonoverlapped windings. With the I-Beam shaped coil, less heat is produced for a given motor size. Alternately, a smaller I-Beam coil will deliver the same force as the T-shaped motor coil. The I-Beam shape also provides more top mounting surface area for heat removal.

New Shaft Motor - Linear Shaft Motor

Linear Shaft Motor

Nippon Pulse America, Inc. recently premiered their newest motor, the Shaft Motor. The Shaft Motor is a direct drive linear servomotor and is driven by using magnetic circuits consisting only of permanent magnets and coils. The Shaft Motor is quiet due to the absence of friction since the only mechanical contact section is the linear guide. The coreless construction of the Shaft Motor totally eliminates cogging. The Shaft Motor's high resolution (0.14 nanometers) means that it is ideal for precision positioning. With the Shaft Motor, you will find that you have virtually no fluctuation in speed. Durable construction makes it possible to operate the Shaft Motor in harsh conditions, including a vacuum situation and underwater. Compared to other linear motors on the market, the Shaft Motor is compact and lightweight. Due to its design, the Shaft Motor has no backlash.

The Shaft Motor is perfect for a wide range of applications. The Shaft Motor can be used in a diverse range of practical applications such as precision positioning, operation under adverse environmental conditions, and many others.

Precision high torque stepper motors, sizes from 35mm square to Super size 42 (4.34") 110mm square x 201mm long with HUGE 260 in-lb of torque. See the various integrated motor/controller drawings for motor details. Torque values below are rated torque, you may operate with more or less then rated. Rated torque is determined by the amount of amperage to develop rated torque and operate for 10 minutes before reaching 180 degree F. Note that torque developed by most competitor's drivers is less then the Excitron controller/drivers<

All motors are rated as high torque, approximately 30% higher than other same-size motors. When coupled with our Controllers, the motor torque is increased another 20% (50% gain). This is true for the normal published speed ranges up to 5,000 sps (maximum available from competitors for most motors). However, our motor torque is more than 100% higher above 5,000 sps, and continues up to 25,000 sps (full steps, depending on motor), where no other controller operates.

Size 42 and 57mm motors are available with high resolution of 400 steps/revolution, indicated with an "M" at the end. It is almost always advantageous to use "M" motors, and we price our motors aggressively.
