Maxi-Zone High Temperature Insertion Heater

Chromalox announces the Maxi-Zone High Temperature Insertion Heater, designed to provide precise, uniform heating of large platens for hot metal presses requiring continuous sheath temperatures to 2000 degrees F. Unlike regular insertion heaters, a Maxi-Zone provides two or three independently controlled temperature zones along the heater sheath. This provides a fine degree of control over hot metal forming processes, enabling increased manufacturing quality. In addition, Maxi-Zone heaters provide efficient radiant heat (not conduction) using sheath diameters smaller than the platen passages. This results in relatively low watt densities and prevents heater sheaths from seizing up in the passages – an important feature, since platens and heaters in metal forming presses are frequently changed. The Maxi-Zone is available in lengths from 8 to 172 inches, and diameters from 0.685 to 0.935 inches, for nominal platen passages from 9/16 to 1-1/4 inches in diameter. A 0.495-inch diameter Maxi-Zone is available for single-zone control.

A uniform platen temperature is critical in the super plastic forming of jet engine fan blades and other titanium parts for the aerospace industry, as well as components for heating and air conditioning equipment. Generally, more heat is required at the edges of these platens than in the center where heat loss is lower. Other applications that benefit from a Maxi-Zone's uniform temperature control include industrial furnaces, aluminum extrusion machines, and ceramic platen presses used for short-run production parts.

Each Maxi-Zone Insertion Heater is constructed of two to six separate resistive heating elements arranged and swaged in place in an Inconel® 600 sheath. Elements are electrically isolated from the sheath wall with a refractory insulation material. Two or three heating zones are staggered along the length of the sheath. When multiple Maxi-Zone heaters are installed, the user can independently monitor and control the heat to each zone, achieving a uniform platen temperature. Inconel sheaths provide durable protection at high temperatures, and as they age, a dark oxide forms on their surface; over time, this improves radiant heat transfer.

Temperature control with a Maxi-Zone heater can be achieved with just about any resistive heating control system. This can be a PID logic controller and SCR power pack, which will provide low hysteresis for tight temperature control. Chromalox supplies a complete line of DIN temperature controllers and SCR power packs for this purpose, including multiple loop controllers with features such as soft-start, ramp and hold, and automated fuzzy logic PID tuning.

Slurries
The chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) process plays a critical role in the manufacture of today's advanced semiconductor "chips." It is a highly accurate polishing process that flattens and smoothes the surface of a silicon wafer, creating a highly uniform surface upon which multiple layers of intricate chip circuitry are built. This results in high-performance chips that are driving today's most advanced electronics. As new generations of chips become increasingly smaller-below 0.35 micron-CMP is more essential in maintaining a wafer's integrity. Benefits to the chipmakers include high-performance and more reliable chips at a lower cost of ownership.

Diamond™ Series Coating Booth

The efficient design of our DIAMOND™ Series coating booth makes the unit ready to install and begin production. No other side-draft cartridge collection booth is as easy to operate, while giving you exceptional performance with each and every application.

Simple to Install

  • DIAMOND Series coating booths feature plug-and-play installation with a fully prewired and preplumbed booth base, which is shipped preassembled in most cases.
  • Bolted construction makes the booth upper structure easy to assemble and modify.
  • Installation time is reduced by up to 50%, and costs reduced by as much as 80%, compared to other unassembled booths.
  • All power and interlock connections are made to one location for simplified installation.

Easy to Use

  • Polycarbonate is an extremely durable plastic material that resists abrasion and scratching. The hard, slick surface of the DIAMOND Series booth stays smooth, clear and easy to clean.
  • The cartridge collector assembly uses horizontally mounted filters easily accessed from outside the unit.
  • Side-draft cartridge modules are interchangeable for fast and easy color changes.
  • The mobile cartridge collector assembly features a single-point clamping device to ensure a tight fit. Minimal effort is required by the operator to change between collector assemblies during color change.
  • When a fast color change is needed, two or more DIAMOND Series booths can be installed in a roll on/off format.
  • Location of ancillary reclaim equipment is based on application need, not collector location.
  • Collector opening is at floor level for easy removal of powder from the booth floor and for transfer back to the reclaim assembly.

Efficient Design

  • Location of automatic gun slots, manual openings, the collector module and the aerodynamic design of the vestibules all contribute to maximize powder transfer efficiency.
  • Clear polycarbonate panels provide the best possible lighting for product application.
  • Complete visibility of spray operation is available at all times, allowing visual monitoring of both manual and automatic gun performance.
  • Pressure drops are constantly monitored across the filters to maintain the utmost operating efficiency.
  • Cabin structure is customized to meet specific application needs with our standard combination of clear and stainless steel structure, or the optional all-stainless steel configuration.
  • Compact floor space design of collection equipment.
  • All DIAMOND Series booth bases are designed to integrate into most standard systems without conveyor elevation changes from the pretreatment system.
  • The center design incorporates air flow vestibules in each automatic gun slot, thus channeling the air flow around the gun and ensuring containment of oversprayed powder.
  • Side draft collection unit provides uniform airflow while allowing operator to visually inspect the level of powder in the bottom of the collector.
  • Direct drive fan provides uniform air volume performance over the full life of the cartridges.
  • Booth ranks as quietest on the market (74 db).
  • Low pressure, high volume back pulse reduces noise and improves cartridge life.

Outstanding Performance

  • Cartridge filter design maximizes both life and powder recovery performance of the filters. It provides maximum filtration at the lowest possible pressure drop.
  • Uniform disbursement of recovery air recycled through highly efficient safety filters under the booth prevents drafts that can compromise the environment.
  • Unique filter eliminates need for "seasoning" at startup.
  • Polycarbonate material reduces the amount of powder build-up on booth walls, allowing more powder to be attracted to the part, thus minimizing clean up.
  • Aerodynamic side-draft design creates a superior application zone for repeatable performance.
  • Open-face collector promotes uniform air flow and more consistent application performance.
  • Efficient design features greater than 95% material utilization

Ultra Prime Lenses

New optical standard for cinematography
Based on the latest in design methods, optical glass, and findings on suppression of reflexes and stray light Carl Zeiss and its partner ARRI have introduced a new generation of fast prime lenses for 35 mm film, the Ultra Primes.

Ultra Prime lenses come with large, easy to read calibrated scales, uniform diameters and position of focus and aperture drive rings, and uniform position of exit pupil. Ultra Prime lenses are particularly robust and easy to service. The optical performance is superb, even wide open. Floating elements keep the optical performanc up all the way to the close-focusing limit. Distortion is well controlled and so is breathing, especially with the wider angle lenses, where it counts most.

The Zeiss/ARRI Ultra Primes currently are the largest set of cine prime lenses. And Carl Zeiss and ARRI are already working to add to it further.
