The Control Concepts 8100 Series zero-speed switches are designed for service in industrial applications requiring protection against rust, rain, and hose directed water. 8100 Series switches are internally geared for slow speed applications: shaft input speeds of 0.5 to 24 RPM. Recommended method of driving is by split or flexible coupling.

Contacts actuate in either direction of shaft rotation. Housings are painted with an epoxy based powder coat to provide rust and corrosion resistance.

Driving torque required is approximately 4 inch ounces. All 8100 models should be direct driven through a split or flexible coupling to avoid end pressure, shaft deflection and side loads on the bearings.

NEMA 4/4x and NEMA 7 & 9 (EP-1 Series)

Available housings: Aluminium (AL), Cast Iron, (CI) and Explosion Proof (EP).

Approximate shipping weight: Aluminum housings: 4 lbs. Cast Iron housings: 8 lbs.

Roto-Guard III Electronic Speed Switch

The Rotoguard III is a switch device for sensing the reduction, increase or loss in rotational motion for many types of moving equipment. The unit can detect changes in motion between 1 and 400 RPM depending on the model selected. The Rotoguard III may be direct coupled or driven through belts and chains. There are three basic models from which to choose. The Zero Speed unit offers no calibration where shaft alarm speeds are near zero RPM. The Adjustable Alarm Speed model offers economy where an alarm is needed with a 15% or greater change in speed. The Digital Set Alarm Speed offers precise and easy adjustment for alarms with as small as a 3% change in operating speed.

Operation:

The unit has been designed to provide an alarm when a change in operating speed occurs. Rotoguard III sensors have an optical encoder and multi-toothed interrupter wheel to transform the rotation of the input shaft to voltage pulses. A change in input speed from the calibrated normal speed results in the output relay changing state. All models have a startup alarm delay feature which allows time for the monitored equipment to come up to speed before the Rotoguard III output alarms.

This unit is available in two enclosure types: a NEMA 4/5 Weather and Dust Proof, and a NEMA 7/9 Explosion Proof. Both are UL listed. (Please Note: Input speed must not exceed 100 RPM on a NEMA 7/9 Explosion Proof switch.)

Custom Zero Speed Sensors

MSI can make zero speed sensors in customer-specified lengths, diameters, configurations, mounting threads (e.g., metric) as well as with different operating specifications and options like pigtail leads, NPT threads for explosion proof applications, etc. Technology can be either Hall Effect or Magnetoresistive (MR)

Custom Zero Speed Sensors

The Motion Sensors (MSI) series of zero speed sensors integrate within the sensor body the Hall Effect or Magneto-Resistive element/s and all amplification and signal-conditioning electronics necessary to produce digital square-wave output with excellent noise immunity and transmission capability.

These sensors can sense ferrous metal (e.g., gears) and magnet targets at airgaps up to .200" to .250", depending on target geometry and sensor construction. Units can be configured for single or (dual) bi-directional sensing. The design also include a circuit that offers complete protection in the event of any connection mis-wiring, not only reverse polarity. The output frequency of these sensors has a square pulse waveform that directly relates to the number of turbine blades, gear teeth, etc. that have been sensed. These pulses, in turn, can be correlated to determine flow rate, RPM, or velocity.

MSI can make zero speed sensors in customer-specified lengths, diameters, configurations, mounting threads (e.g., metric) as well as with different operating specifications and options like pigtail leads, NPT threads for explosion proof applications, etc. Please contact Motion Sensors and they would be happy to make a product that meets your specifications.
