Modular Transporter Makes Guinness World Records

If an offshore platform weighing more than 13 tons and measuring 98.5 m long sounds like an impossible weight to transport from one site to another, think again. Recently, a self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) not only moved this incredible load in Dubai, but at the same time earned itself a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. While 512 axles were utilized in the four hour, 883 m move, it took another 10 hours for the platform to be unloaded. Get the moving story in International Cranes and Specialized Transport.

Concrete Crusher Cuts Demo Time

Demolishing old Portland cement concrete roadways and parking lots used to be a time-consuming operation. But those days are over with the introduction of the first-ever combo vibrating soil compactor and cold mill-style pavement concrete crusher. The 25 ton heavy-duty roller is said to crush both rock and its concrete overlay in one swift pass of its metal-toothed drum, saving both cash and hours of man and equipment power.

Power Saw Says Sayonara to Oil

The "world's first" anything is always exciting, especially when it comes to commercial grade construction tools. That excitement isn't lost on the world's first four-stroke power cutter which means you don't need the traditional gas/oil fuel mix to make it run. It also means you can pocket the cash that would be spent on oil. Watch a demo video from The World of Concrete 2014.

Pickup Loaded with Luxury

Boasting a transverse-mounted engine, a new high-end commercial grade pickup doesn't boast a lot of torque, but it does offer a "special edition" luxury trim level package. Outfitted with heated seats, sun roof, and a digital GPS navigation system, the truck is as ready for the off-road as it is a pleasure to drive on the highway. But is the $38K+ price tag worth it? Watch and decide for yourself.

Aerial Accident in the Making

If the aerial platform you're using to reach a specific working height is too short for the job, it's a good idea to find a machine with a taller boom. Seems like a simple concept, yet the steel workers caught in this photo from the UK would rather risk life and limb by climbing out of the cage and onto the steel beam structure than place a call to the local equipment rental outfit.

Overloaded Skid Steer Spells Disaster

One of the most productive machines on the jobsite, a skid steer can be deadly when overloaded. Here's a case from Texas: an operator used his machine to support a chunk of concrete weighing over one ton while another utilized a concrete saw to release the chunk from a larger structure. Too heavy for the machine, the concrete fell four stories and fatally wounded the operator.

Diggerland Digs Thrills and Spills

Berlin, New Jersey's Diggerland USA just might be one of the most unusual yet innovative theme parks in the world. Instead of traditional thrill rides like roller coasters, bumper cars, and carousels, this 14 acre park is dedicated to heavy construction machinery. In fact, all the rides are derived from and operated by excavators and other earth movers. Grab a ticket for a ride on this demo video.
