Slowly but surely, extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography systems are making progress in offering the industry new chip fabrication capabilities. Latest test results from IBM show that an ASML EUV lithography system NXE3300B produced 637 wafers per day at a steady rate of 34 wafers per hour with a 44 W light source. Although the progress is significant, it still falls short of a production target. According to IBM's EUV development program manager Dan Corliss, "we have a lot of work to get there."

MIT researchers have found that by controlling the concentration of electrons in a graphene sheet, they can change the way the material responds to short but intense light pulses. In other words, by modulating graphene's electron concentration, the researchers realized that they could effectively alter graphene's photoconductive properties from semiconductor-like to metal-like. The new connector meets IEC50521 TUV 1500V-Class A (All Access), UL6703 1000V (Americas), and JET 1500V (Japan). If Moore's law must continue, the photoresist used in semiconductor lithography must also accordingly shrink. Hence, in a bid to continue decreasing transistor size while increasing computation and energy efficiency, chip-maker Intel has partnered with researchers from the U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (Berkeley Lab) to design an entirely new kind of photoresist.
