Waterproof Step Motors Make Waves in Industry

From Empire Magnetics Inc.

Because of the preponderance of water and solvents, motion control components are often exposed to the risk of corrosion and failure. Waterproof motors are a key part of the solution to water-induced motor failure problems. Today's waterproof motors are specifically designed to survive a minimum of 30 feet under the sea, a general industrial standard for the "waterproof" designation. These are not retrofitted standard step motors, but are truly waterproof motors, which operate very well above the waterline, too -- in a wide variety of industrial and marine settings. The motors have been fitted with redundant shaft seals, O rings, hermetic cable feedthrough, pressure equalization and other waterproofing features. Together, these design features allow a step motor to answer a design engineer's need for a motor that will not fail after even prolonged exposure to, or submersion in, most liquids.

Products & Services
AC motors include single, multiphase, universal, induction, synchronous, and gear motors. They also include servomotors.   Search by Specification | Learn more about AC Motors
DC motors are most commonly used in variable speed and torque applications. They include brushless and gear motors, as well as servomotors. Search by Specification | Learn more about DC Motors
Brushless motors are synchronous electric motors that have a magnetically (AC induction) or electronically (DC) controlled commutation system instead of a brush-based mechanical commutation system. Search by Specification | Learn more about Brushless Motors
DC servomotors are generally small and powerful for their size, and easy to control. Common types of DC servomotors include brushless or gear motors. Search by Specification | Learn more about DC Servomotors
Stepper motors use a magnetic field to move a rotor in small angular steps or fractions of steps. They provide precise positioning and ease of use, especially in low acceleration or static load applications. Search by Specification | Learn more about Stepper Motors
