From Resonic NDT Systems
Four samples of 1.90" diameter by 15.5" length bearing grade hot rolled steel samples were evaluated for detection of small surface defects of significantly less than 1% of volume. To adequately detect small features on the order of.2" l x .006" w x .006"d. (2) resonance-mode electromagnetic acoustic transducers (RM-EMAT) were fabricated for this test. The transducer width is 1.3" with an axial inspection window of about .75". The first transducer was a 1.970" ID was a N:29 or 29 wavelength transducer that produced a resonant frequency of approximately 547 kHz. This transducer did not provide sufficient resolution of defects significantly below 1% of cross-sectional volume. The second transducer was a N:37 or 37 wavelength design and produced axial shear resonant modes at approximately 870 kHz. Products & Services
