We report on Volume Bragg Grating (VBG) technology for a spectrum of applications in optical components ranging from fixed or tunable filters, ROADM, beam combiners and pump stabilizers. VBGs allow higher integration and added functionality than Fiber Bragg Gratings.
Volume Bragg Grating (VBG) technology is in many ways similar to Fiber Bragg Gratings except that the recording medium for the grating is not a single mode fiber but a bulk medium. The 3-D nature of VBG.s give us new functionalities that are not possible with FBGs or more generally gratings in waveguides. In this presentation we will describe the characteristics of filters we have recently fabricated and present devices that take advantage of the unique properties of VBGs. We will show that in many instances VBGs combine the best attributes of FGBs and thin film filters which leads to devices that are impossible to implement with either of the other two technologies.

Variable area flowmeters were invented in the nineteenth century but were not introduced for general industrial use until the 1930s. They became very popular and widely used since they offered a...
Measuring chilled water (or condenser water, or hot water) flow in your system can't be that difficult, can it? After all, you just stick some kind of flow measurement device in your pipe and read its...
Sizing Pneumatics for Performance and Efficiency Consider how every component interacts to design better air circuits. • Traditional techniques size pneumatic circuits based on valve flow.
Laminar flow elements, also known as LFEs, laminar flowmeters, or simply laminar meters, are used to measure the flow of gases through closed conduits. They operate by producing a differential...
Flowmeter selection can be difficult. For any given measurement task, there are multiple possibilities. Among these, a few will meet performance specifications, and one will have the lowest total...
