COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Researchers at Ohio State University are developing an early warning system for aircraft degradation -- paint that changes color when the metal beneath it begins to corrode. While maintenance crews can search for corrosion with several high-tech tools including electromagnetic currents and ultrasound, this paint is potentially both less expensive and more sensitive, because it makes tiny pockets of corrosion visible to the naked eye. The paint reveals newly-formed corrosion cavities as shallow as 15 micrometers -- about one-fifth the width of a human hair. Gerald Frankel, associate professor of materials science and engineering, and Jian Zhang, a graduate student,

Sprayers and Spray Coating Equipment

Sprayers and spray coating equipment refers to any component used in a variety of industrial spraying processes, including application tools, handling equipment, and supplemental machines. They are used in the process of atomizing coatings, paints, lubricants, solvents, deicing liquids, chemicals, and powders so they can be spray-applied to a surface.

Paint Brushes and Applicators
Paint brushes and applicators are used to apply paints, adhesives, sealants, oils, cleaners, acids or etchants, mortar or cement treatments, and other coating products to surfaces.
Spray Guns and Applicators
Spray guns and applicators form a coating by directing atomized paints, adhesives, liquids, or powders toward a surface. These devices affect droplet sizes and spray patterns which influence the efficiency of the spray.
Thickness Gages
Thickness gages are used to make precise dimensional measurements on coatings and materials such as steel, plastic, glass, rubber, ceramics, paint, electroplated layers, and enamels.
Spray Painting Equipment (Paint Sprayers)
Paint spraying equipment and paint sprayers are used to atomize and propel a concentrated mist of a finish coating onto a surface. This includes the equipment used to directly apply the spray coating, as well as a variety of supporting equipment to optimize the painting process.
