The disk drive industry is on course to send out its first set of microcontamination standards for voting by December. The balloting will mark the culmination of a process that began in October 1996 when the International Disk Drive Equipment Association formed a special committee to tackle this specific issue for the first time. Voters will have the chance to approve drafts in three areas identified as crucial by the IDEMA committee: terms and definitions, test methodology, and contamination catalog.
