From Bayer MaterialScience LLC
This Technical Information contains a survey of general information on the topic of "Poisson´s ratio", together with corresponding reference values for a number of selected Bayer MaterialScience thermoplastics. It is designed to provide initial guidance and has been drawn up particularly with design engineers in mind. In the tensile test, a test specimen undergoes extension in the longitudinal direction and compression at right angles to this. The ratio of this transverse compression to the longitudinal extension is denoted Poisson´s ratio. Poisson´s ratio constitutes a proportionality factor between different Young´s moduli and, together with the Young´s modulus, characterizes the deformation behavior of the material. Products & Services
Thermosets and thermoset materials are crosslinked polymeric resins that are cured or set using heat or heat and pressure. They generally have a higher resistance to heat than thermoplastics.
