From FLIR

Infrared applications and activities outside the day to day predictive maintenance (PdM) inspections have become part of the culture at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Plant. An innovative approach to various opportunities has enabled the infrared technology to provide substantial benefits to the operation of the plant. The infrared technology is routinely considered as a tool to be utilized in troubleshooting activities. This paper will focus primarily on a process which has been tested and successfully implemented to identify the condition of relief valves operating within a system at ambient temperature. Other examples will include applications dealing with high pressure hydro cleaning of pipes, locating the source of a turbine boot seal leak, and the identification of a sudden large condenser vacuum leak.
