*About 70% of global defense spending is used to pay for operations, maintenance and personnel, with an estimated $1.1 trillion spent annually on defense worldwide--an amount equivalent to 3% of global GDP, according to AeroStrategy Management Consulting. Of this amount, the U.S. accounts for 40% ($450 billion), followed by China ($110 billion), Russia ($81 billion), Japan ($44 billion), the U.K.
