Function Generators: Testing Tone Burst Decoders
From bkprecision.com

A tone burst decoder requires a specific tone frequency such as 2250 Hz for a specific minimum period of time (120 milliseconds) before it will provide an output. This delay prevents voice signals or other random on-frequency signals from falsely activating the decoder. A function generator equipped with tone burst capability can generate the signals necessary to test the delay time as well as frequency response and sensitivity of tone burst decoders.

1. Connect equipment as shown in Fig. 20. With the generator initially in the continuous run mode, set its range and frequency to the decoder’s acceptance frequency. This should be found in the manufacturer’s service literature or may be marked on the unit. Use a frequency counter if a high degree of accuracy is required.

Products & Services
Audio analyzers measure the noise and audio spectrum of output from an amplifier or a stereo.
Fixed mount bar code scanners are designed to manually or mechanically read items passed by their scan windows. Unlike hand scanners, they are affixed to a single location.
Signal generators and waveform generators are used to test and align all types of transmitters and receivers, to measure frequency and to generate a signal, waveform or noise source. Signal generators can use AC energy, audio frequency (AF) and radio frequency (RF) to function.
Pulse generators are electrical test equipment used to generate pulses that are injected into devices under test in order to study the behavior of these devices.
IC timers are semiconductor circuits that generate or set timing for electronics circuits.
