Boeing yesterday finalized a firm deal for 20 Boeing 737s from Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise, and expects to ink an even larger deal today with Indonesia's Lion Air.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a news conference today in Washington with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Boeing VP-Sales Dinesh Keskar, and the two expect to sign an order deal for 737s for privately held Lion Air. The airline has been evaluating bids from Airbus and Boeing for as many as 60 narrowbody aircraft. The deal may contain orders for the 737-800 and the larger proposed 737-900X, sources said.

The airline currently flies 13 MD-82s, one MD-83, two MD-90s and four 737-400s. The private carrier, which started operations in June 2000, has capitalized on the weakened state of flag carrier Merpati Nusantara in expanding its international network (DAILY, Nov. 9, 2004).

The new order comes one day after Boeing inked the 737 deal with SALE, which also includes options for 20 additional planes.
