Comair 191, a Final Dialogue

THE RECORDING BEGINS at 05:36:07 on Aug. 27, 2006, with the first sound a rustling, apparently that of someone entering the cockpit.

Flight Attendant: "[Unintelligible] Well, I reported at five thirty [unintelligible]."

Captain: "[Unintelligible] differed." Then, 24 seconds later, "Everything else is good." There follow the sounds similar to a crewmember testing an oxygen mask and conducting a hot microphone test.

Captain: "Circuit breakers, checked. Nosewheel steering is off. Hydraulic pumps, all off. Landing gear lever, down. Spoiler lever, lever, retracted. Flaps lever, set to flaps 20. Radar, off. AHRS, mag, landing gear, manual release. ADG, manual release. Battery master, on. Fire protection, checked. Nav lights, on. External [unintelligible] A/C. No APU. Hydraulic pump 3A is on. Nosewheel door, closed. Aircraft/crew docs, on board. Flight compartment safety inspection is complete."

Then comes a sound similar to a crewmember checking an oxygen mask; three tones similar to a CVR test tone; the sound of a person whistling; a high-low chime; chimes similar to fire protection test sign; and then a mechanical voice, uttering: "Smoke."

Captain: "Smoke." Then comes a triple chime, followed by a mechanical voice, saying, "Bleed air duct."

Captain: "I was talking to another guy I flew with yesterday. He was, uh, had put his bid in for, uh, JFK captain. He wasn't real happy about it, but . . ."

Copilot: "First officer?"

Captain: "Yeah.
