From CST - Computer Simulation Technology
Differential (DIFF) transmission lines are generally considered to be one of the most commonly used passive interconnect structures for high speed data transmission. Typically there are two configurations of DIFF transmission lines used to transfer signals in printed circuit boards (PCBs) and/or packages: stripline and microstrip line. A stripline represents a guiding structure which provides a pure transverse electromagnetic (TEM) mode of propagation. The transmission line is shielded between two metal layers (typically the power and ground plane), and therefore also provides excellent performance in terms of EMC/EMI.

3.5 Planar Transmission Lines By far the most commonly used transmission lines are the planar types, some of which are shown in Figure 3.22. They can be constructed precisely using low-cost printed...
1.1 The Origin of Microstrip Radiators Microstrip geometries which radiate electromagnetic waves were originally contemplated in the 1950's. The realization of radiators which are compatible with...
Transmission Line Model of PCB Track PCB design for high-speed logic and RFI immunity demands the use of power and ground planes, and plain double-sided PCBs are not recommended. In the former, a...
Overview The method of orthogonal series expansion is applied to calculate the field distribution of the quasi-TEM mode in a shielded microstrip line [1], as shown in Figure H.1. It is assumed that...
7.7 Planar Transmission-Lines Planar transmission-lines are formed by metallized plane dielectric plates [14 17]. Planar transmission-lines play an important role as the basic line structures in...
