From GE Analytical Instruments

The food and beverage industry uses extraordinarily
large amounts of water within their manufacturing
processes. Water can be used as an ingredient, a
cleaning solvent, and as a utility, such as for boiling and
cooling. When considering how important clean water
is to the entire process, one must keep in mind the
ratio of water used versus the amount of final product
produced. For example, one liter of juice, wine, or coffee
can use more than 800 liters of water, and one kilogram
of cheese or tea can use more than 5,000 liters.
