Test Indicators

 

Test indicators have the lowest discrimination when compared with indicators and comparators. Test indicators used mainly for set up and comparative production part checking. Test indicators often use a cantilevered stylus or level style probe that facilitates inspection of hard to reach part features, but results in high cosine errors. A cosine error of 0.0006" may result over a travel range of 0.010". Test indicators are not considered absolute measuring instruments, but comparative tools for checking components against standard or zeroing-out setups.Test indicators, indicators, and comparators are instruments for comparative measurements of where the linear movement of a precision spindle is amplified and displayed on a dial or digital display. Test indicators have sufficient accuracy for shop or production gaging and are often machine mounted. Indicators have a higher degree of precision compared to test indicators and are used for inspection gaging and in monitoring precision grinding operations. Comparators provide the highest level of precision and accuracy of the instruments in this group and can be used to check other gages.

Air Gages

End Mills
End mills are widely-used, multiple-flute cutters typically used for machining metals or plastics. They are typically mounted vertically and have two-or-more helical flutes. End mills are usually configured to cut with their ends and on their sides.
Face Mills
Face mills are primarily used for milling a face on the surface of a plate or bar. They are predominantly used to cut with the ends of the cutter rather than their sides. 
Keyseat Cutters
Keyseat cutters produce a groove or slot, which serves as a seat for a complementary engagement key. They are typically used in key shafts to provide positive engagement and prevent unwanted rotation or movement.
