Helium degassing continuously passes helium through a solvent in order to expel dissolved air. This is the most effective method of degassing, and is recommended both for trace analysis and for avoiding the fluorescence quenching due to the effect of dissolved oxygen on the analytes. The disadvantages associated with helium degassing are the high price of the helium and the fact that more volatile solvent components (such as tetrahydrofuran) can also be expelled by the helium over a period of time. This can give rise to changes in retention times. Products & Services
