Helical Couplings and Slit Couplings

Helical couplings and slit couplings prevent backlash and provide constant velocity with angular misalignment. They are designed for high speeds and do not require lubrication. Helical couplings and slit couplings are flexible beams that are machined from a solid piece of material with a bore through the center. Slit couplings have several slits that are machined on the periphery of the coupling to allow the beam to flex. Helical couplings are a type of slit coupling with a continuous, helical slot in the center section, machined through to the bore. Both types of couplings have no backlash and constant velocity with angular misalignment. They can operate at high speeds with no lubrication.

Products & Services
Flexible couplings connect rotating members while allowing some degree of angular or parallel misalignment.
Rigid couplings connect rotating members such as shafts. They secure onto both members and provide transmission of torque and motion.
Optical apertures and slits control the diameter of beams from light sources.
Universal joints are flexible mechanical connections used to transmit rotary motion from one shaft to another shaft that is not in line with the first, or when alignment varies during service.
Ceramic hybrid bearings, the most common type of ceramic bearing, are constructed of steel inner and outer rings with ceramic (typically Si3N4) balls in place of steel.  Common types of ceramic bearings are angular contact and conrad.
