External RAID Controllers

External RAID controllers are external devices for higher-end design systems. In this case, the RAID controller is removed completely from the system to a separate box. Within the box the external RAID controller manages the drives in the array, typically using SCSI, and then presents the logical drives of the array over a standard interface (again, typically a variant of SCSI) to the server using the array. The server sees the array or arrays as just one or more very fast hard disks; the RAID is completely hidden from the machine. In essence, one of these units really is an entire computer unto itself, with a dedicated processor that manages the RAID array and acts as a conduit between the server and the array.

Products & Services
RAID products include component within a RAID system, such as RAID controllers and RAID disk arrays. RAID is an acronym for redundant array of independent (or inexpensive) disks. Search by Specification | Learn more about RAID Products
RAID controllers are computer boards that control RAID systems. Learn more about RAID Controllers
RAID disk arrays are collections of storage disks with integrated controllers to manage the storage of data. Search by Specification | Learn more about RAID Disk Arrays
Fibre Channel products include hubs, directors, servers, adapters, etc. Learn more about Fibre Channel Products
SCSI switches connect test points or devices to instruments for the testing, measuring, or monitoring industrial systems. Small computer system interface (SCSI) is an intelligent peripheral bus with a standard, device-independent protocol that allows many peripheral devices to be connected to the SCSI port.
