Using the CD

Using the CD

You will find the learning activities, handouts, slides and other materials included in this chapter on the CD that accompanies this workbook. To access these files, insert the CD and click on the following file names:

  • Assessment [number] .pdf

  • Handout [number] .pdf

  • One-Hour.ppt

  • Half-Day.ppt

  • One-Day.ppt

To print out the materials for your training session, follow these simple steps. Insert the CD and click on the appropriate .pdf file name to open it in Adobe Acrobat software. Print out the pages of the document(s) needed for your training session.

In this chapter, the slides referred to in each of the learning activities are numbered according to the order in which they appear on the CD in the one-day programme (see pp. 70-77 for reference). You can access individual slides by opening the one-day PowerPoint presentation (One-Day.ppt). You can choose individual slides to suit your customized content by opening the one-day presentation, saving the file under a different name (for example, the slide number used in Chapters 7 or 8) and deleting the slides you do not want to use. Thumbnails of the slides in that presentation will appear and you can copy and paste any of them into your own presentation.

Crossed roller slides are simple linear motion devices that consist of a stationary base and a moving carriage. The rollers are crossed at a 90° angle in an alternating fashion and are enclosed in the rails, which have a machined V-shaped groove to support the rollers.
Microscope Stages
Microscope stages are platforms where specimens are placed for observation with a microscope. They are often equipped with a mechanical device which holds the specimen slide in place, but allows the back-and-forth and side-to-side movement of the slide.
