From Garlock Sealing Technologies

Many factors affect the performance of the ubiquitous gaskets that provide critical seals between pipe segments and ensure satisfactory operation of a broad range of industrial equipment. But no factor is more important than compressive load. A gasket, after all, is a mechanical system that is fundamentally based on the spring-like force exerted by the fasteners being stretched and the other joint components being compressed. This compressive load provided by the bolts must be sufficient to cause the gasket to flow into and fill any irregularities in the mating surfaces being sealed. It is also necessary to provide the gripping force between the gasket and flange surface in order to mitigate against lateral gasket movement and blowout. The higher the compressive load, both initially and during service, the better the seal and the higher the blowout resistance.

Products & Services
Metal Ring Seals
Metal ring seals are static devices that can withstand high operating temperatures, pressures, and vacuums. They can also withstand cryogenic conditions and high face-to-face cycling.
Hydraulic Seals and Pneumatic Seals
Hydraulic seals and pneumatic seals include piston seals, rod seals, U-cups, vee, cup, and flange packings.
Dynamic Seals
Dynamic seals include oil seals, hydraulic and pneumatic seals, exclusion seals, labyrinth seals, bearing isolators, and piston rings. They create a barrier between moving and stationary surfaces in applications such as rotating shafts and pistons rings.  This is a general search form; more detailed search forms are available.
Labyrinth Seals and Clearance Seals
Labyrinth seals and clearance seals are minimum-leakage seals that protect machine elements from contamination through a noncontact method. They operate on the principle of positive clearance and do not rub on shafts or housing.
Compression Packing Seals
Compression packing seals or gland seals are deformable materials used to prevent or control the leakage of fluid between surfaces that move in relation to each other.
