From MTS Sensors
The tough operating environment of off-road equipment is a natural for Temposonics sensor steering position feedback. These proven sensors stand up to the most abusive shock and vibration requirements. MTS Temposonics sensors are ideally suited to linear rack and pinions or hydraulic-steering cylinders. They offer convenient, protected mounting schemes and high reliability with a choice of data formats. These Temposonics sensors are absolute so that loss of power does not require re-homing or re-learning current position when power is restored. Though customarily supplied as rigid, linear-position sensors, Temposonics sensors also have the unique ability to conform to non-linear measurement paths. The sensor can form a circle or a serpentine path to measure angles. When measuring a turning motion, such as a steering king-pin joint, the sensor is formed into a circle. Methods have been developed for measuring not only portions of the sensor's circle, but 360 degrees and multi-turns as well. These sensors can take advantage of the sensor's natural absolute nature and offer absolute position through 360 degrees. Products & Services
Position probes measure the position of a target surface, usually with a high degree of accuracy. This search form covers many different linear position products.

Magnetostrictive position sensors are non-contact linear position sensors that use the momentary interaction of two magnetic fields to produce a strain pulse that moves along a waveguide. One field is from a magnet that moves along the outside of the waveguide. The other field is from the waveguide itself.
