The world’s largest wind turbine blades - LM 61.5 P
The largest wind turbine blades in the world, LM 61.5 P, were designed for REpower Systems AG and were fitted to the 120 m tall 5MW 5M prototype turbine in Brunsbüttel in northern Germany in the end of 2004. In the slightly longer term, LM anticipates very strong demand for the type of wind turbines that the LM 61.5 P was designed for – not least being the offshore market
Despite measuring 61.5 metres, through a combination of materials, design and new manufacturing proces¬ses LM has been able to keep the weight of the blade to less than 18 tonnes. The low weight is attributable to two factors. First of all, the use of LM Glasfiber’s FutureBlade technology, which has been further developed to combine fiberglass and carbon fiber in a new way. Secondly, a new root concept has been developed that enables blades to be produced that are 20% longer than the previous longest blade produced by LM without increasing the diameter of the blade root.
Products & Services
Wind turbines convert the kinetic energy from wind into mechanical energy. When used with an electrical generator, the rotation of the wind turbine’s blades turns a shaft to produce electricity.
Alternative power generators produce electricity from renewable energy sources, such as wind, flowing water, solar energy and biomass, which create less environmental damage and pollution than fossil fuels.
Saw blades are cutting implements used in conjunction with saws and other cutters.
Impellers are rotating devices that force liquids, gases and vapors in a desired direction. They are widely used in pumping, blowing, and mixing applications.
Filament winding machines place or wind continuous fibers on a mandrel surface in a precise geometric pattern. They are central components in fabric and composite material manufacturing.
