In 2002 the “Rygerdoktoren” series – a high performance ambulance-/patrolboat – was produced for Rodne & sons. The vessel is a full sandwich construction with DIAB core materials and vinylester/carbon skins. Both the hull and the super structure were infused. The 20 m long hull was produced using the core infusion method in a single hit operation that took less than an hour.
The combination of carbon multiaxial fibers, Divinycell core materials and the infusion manufacturing process, has resulted in a structural weight reduction of 40% compared to the type of composite materials that would have been previously used in a vessel of this type. With increased strength and reduced weight, the vessel has a top speed of 44 knots and an operational speed of 36-38 knots.
