Titanium, zirconium, and nickel alloy threaded fasteners make excellent mechanical joints. Like any materials, however, they have advantages and disadvantages. There are some design, procurement, and manufacturing practices that can increase the success of those joints. This paper will try to point out some of the strengths and difficulties of these materials as fasteners, and suggest some practices that alleviate difficulties while taking advantage of strengths.
