'Despedida' 54' - At Cockpit Sloop From Alden Yachts
From DIAB, Inc.

For decades Portsmouth, Rhode Island-based Alden Yachts has represented the highest order of innovation, quality, performance and value in custom yachts. Alden Yachts blue water sailboats and custom performance power boats are hand-built from the highest quality materials with ‘old-world’ skill and craftsmanship. Pictured above is ‘Despedida’ an Alden Yachts’ 54’ Aft Cockpit Sloop. This is the first time the yard has used epoxy/ProBalsa sandwich construction out of a female mold. She was quick to show her racing potential when in the 2001 Marion to Bermuda Race she was first overall out of 86 boats. The hull is epoxy with transverse directional, biaxial and quadraxial E-Glass laminates. Kevlar is used in the forward area for added impact resistance. The epoxy resin is pre-impregnated into the rein¬forcement before being placed in the mold. In this way Alden Yachts can control the glass to resin ratio and ensure there are no dry areas.

Products & Services
Fiberglass fabrication services include die cutting or converting of glass fabrics, stitching, sewing, draping, laminating, assembly, hand lay-up, spray-up, and other processes for a variety of applications and industries.
Aramid fiber and fabrics consists of bulk, chopped fibers, continuous strands or woven cloth forms of aromatic polyamide thermoplastic for reinforcing polymer matrix composites and other applications.
Glass fibers and fiberglass cloth consist of bulk, chopped fibers or continuous strands of glass. Fiberglass is used in reinforcing plastics and composites as well as other specialized electrical and thermal applications.
RF and microwave laminates are used as substrates for radio frequency (RF) and microwave communication systems and electronics. They are designed to meet the demanding performance standards for higher-frequency applications.
Epoxy adhesives are chemical compounds for joining components. They require clean surfaces and are valued for their toughness and resistance to chemical and environmental damage.
