Holcim (US) Inc. (Member
Holcim Ltd. Group,
Switzerland), Dundee,
Mich., produces cement and related
building materials, including fly
ash and slag, at 14 facilities located
throughout the US for use in
residential, commercial, industrial,
and civil construction projects. The
company uses river barges and
various rivers to transport the
materials to more than 60
distribution sites located near large
cities. Because the company
switched to a different type of barge
for transporting the materials, it
needed to install new vacuumunloading
systems at several
distribution sites to unload the
barges faster and more efficiently.
