Niobium (Nb) for Hot Concentrated Nitric Acid: Material Selection & Field Experiences with Nb-Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers

From ATI Wah Chang

The highly acid, oxidizing conditions in parts of nitric acid plants severely tax conventional materials such as high-purity aluminum and high-silicon stainless steel. Long-term field-testing of these materials along with tantalum, tantalum-25%tunsten and niobium showed excellent performance for the reactive metals.

Products & Services
Nonferrous metals and nonferrous alloys are not based on iron and include alloys of aluminum, copper, titanium, zinc, nickel, cobalt, tungsten, precious metals, refractory metals. Learn more about Nonferrous Metals and Alloys
Master alloys and alloying additives are alloy element concentrates, grain refiners, hardeners, deoxidants and other agents added into a melt or metal powder blend to produce a particular alloy, modify a melt or alter processing characteristics. Learn more about Master Alloys and Alloying Additives
Tungsten and tungsten alloys are refractory metal or alloys with a very high melting point and high density. Tungsten and tungsten alloys are used to fabricate light bulb filaments, PVD evaporation crucibles, EDM electrodes, and electrical contacts. Search by Specification | Learn more about Tungsten and Tungsten Alloys
Molybdenum and molybdenum alloys are refractory metal and alloys with a very high melting point and a relatively high density. Molybdenum and molybdenum alloys are used to fabricate PVD evaporation crucibles, electrodes, and electrical contacts. Search by Specification | Learn more about Molybdenum and Molybdenum Alloys
Bimetals and clad alloys consist of two or more different alloy layers that are integrally bonded into a metal plate, strip, sheet, or other stock shape. Learn more about Bimetals and Clad Alloys
